Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union are leading an expanding cast for the Cheaper by the Dozen remake at Disney+.
The reimagining from Black-ish creator Kenya Barris is being developed for the House of Mouse’s streaming service. First revealed at the Disney Investor Day last December, the story centres on a multiracial, blended family of 12, navigating a hectic home life while managing their family business.
Union was already attached the project, with Zach Braff set to join her as the parents. They’ve now found their dozen for the film, with Journee Brown, Kyle Rogers, Andre Robinson, Caylee Blosenski, Aryan Simhadri, Leo A Perry, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Christian Cote, Sebastian Cote and Luke Prael joining the cast.
Written by Barris and Grown-Ish executive producer Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry, the movie will be directed by Gail Lerner, while Shawn Levy (who directed the 2003 iteration starring Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt) is on board as an exec-producer. The original film was released in 1950, before Martin and Hunt reinterpreted the comedy for the noughties – and then reprised their roles for a 2005 sequel. Whether this new incarnation will spark a franchise will become clear in 2022, when the film is set to premiere.
