Vimeo now available on Chromecast

Vimeo has arrived on Chromecast. The video service, which is already available on a range of platforms, including Xbox, is now compatible with Google’s streaming stick – but only if you have an Apple phone or tablet.
Vimeo’s most recent update to its iOS app means that users can cast videos from an iPhone or iPad to their TV screen. As with all Chromecast services, the thumb-sized dongle – which plugs into the telly’s HDMI port – acts as a receiver for the video stream, while the Vimeo app acts as the remote, allowing viewers to control what they watch with their device. While a video is playing, viewers can continue to browse for more videos on the small screen.
Vimeo says it is “working to bring it to [Android] devices”, although Techcrunch notes that, in addition to the “relatively small” size of its mobile team, the majority of Vimeo users are those with iOS devices. Indeed, Apple users have previously been favoured by Vimeo, with private videos supported on Apple TV (if saved to watch later on a playlist) but not on other set top boxes. In the meantime, streaming media device owners can also get their big screen Vimeo fix on Roku and Fire TV.
