“I hate boats!” That’s the sound of Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May returning to our screeners for a new The Grand Tour special – and, just for this once, they’re swapping cars for boats.
Amazon Studios announced last year that they had entered into a deal with the former Top Gear trio, plus producer Andy Wilman, to develop brand new TV shows with them individually, but also to stop The Grand Tour in its conventional form. Instead, the studio tent and race track are being swapped for big adventure road trips instead, as the three menchildren head around the world for a series of four specials.
The first, which was filmed across Vietnam and Cambodia, will see them go on a road trip away from land, as they make their way along the iconic waterway of the Mekong Delta. Jeremy Clarkson will be at the helm of a Vietnam war-era PBR, as seen in Apocalypse Now, while Hammond will be in a flashy speedboat, with May in a 1939 wooden river cruiser. Their 800km journey will range from Tonlé Sap Lake down the Mekong Delta, navigating treacherous challenges along the way.
Seamen, a feature-length special, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on Friday 13th December. Here’s the trailer:
