How does the cinematic sausage get made? Sky is coming up with a darkly amusing answer in The Franchise, which begins this October.
The comedy series follows the crew of an unloved franchise movie fighting for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe. The show shines a light on the secret chaos inside the world of superhero moviemaking.
Himesh Patel stars as Daniel, alongside Aya Cash as Anita, Jessica Hynes as Steph, Billy Magnussen as Adam, Lolly Adefope as Dag, Darren Goldstein as Pat, and Isaac Powell as Bryson. Recurring guest stars include Richard E Grant as Peter and Daniel Brühl as Eric.
The show – which will air on HBO and MAX in the USA – is written by showrunner Jon Brown, who exec-produces alongside Armando Iannucci for Dundee Productions and Jim Kleverweis, as well as Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown, and Julie Pastor for Neal Street Productions. Mendes also directed the pilot episode.
The show will premiere on Sky Comedy and NOW on 21st October, with the first three episodes available on-demand, followed by new episodes weekly.
