Netflix is taking a fresh look at the Nativity story this Christmas, with new film Mary.
Starring Noa Cohen, the biblical epic tells the story of one of history’s most profound figures and the remarkable journey that led to the birth of Jesus. Chosen to bring the Messiah into the world, Mary is shunned following a miraculous conception and forced into hiding. When King Herod orders a murderous hunt for her newborn baby, Mary and Joseph (Ido Tako), go on the run – bound by faith and driven by courage – to save his life at all costs.
Directed by DJ Caruso (Disturbia, I Am Number Four), this coming-of-age tale reveals a side of the icon we’ve never seen or even imagined before, telling the story through her eyes.
Produced by Mary Aloe, with pastor Joel Osteen as an executive producer on the film, it co-stars Anthony Hopkins as King Herod, alongside Stephanie Nur (Lioness, 1883) as Salome, Susan Brown (Game of Thrones, The Iron Lady) as Anna the Prophetess, Ori Pfeffer (Hacksaw Ridge, Jolt) as Joachim, and Eamon Farren (Winchester, The Dig) as Satan.
The film premieres on Netflix on 6th December. Here’s the trailer:
