Christina Hendricks and Uzo Aduba star in Candy Jar, Netflix’s new original film.
The quirky comedy follows two duelling high school debate champs who are at odds on just about everything. It follows them as they forge ahead with ambitious plans to get into the colleges of their dreams – and, as they realise they share more in common than they thought, a romance blossoms between the introverted working-class Lona and her rival, Bennett.
Vampire Cademy and Blue Bloods’ Sami Gayle stars in the comedy, alongside The Maze Runner’s Jacob Latimore, most recently seen in Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit. Hendricks and Aduba co-star as the kids’ respective mothers, with none other than Helen Hunt joining the cast as a guidance counsellor.
The film is written by debut screenwriter Chad Klitzman, with Ben Shelton, a veteran of The Daily Show, writing and directing. Candy Jar premieres on Netflix worldwide on Friday 27th April. Here’s the trailer:
Candy Jar is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
