Disney is getting ready to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s birthday this month, not by updating or rebooting its big-eared icon but by dropping a series of deliberately retro shorts – and a new trailer gives us a first look at the new animated outings.

From the team behind Disney Channel’s Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts, The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse join all five seasons of the previous Disney Channel shorts, which ran for five seasons from 2013. The new, 20-part series follows Mickey and his best pals – Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto – as they embark on a string of adventures, navigating the curveballs of a wild and zany world containing the magic of Disney. Each seven-minute short combines comedy and the classic art style of the Mickey shorts with modern settings and new music.

The series will debut on Wednesday 18th November, with two new shorts then arriving every Friday from 27th November for five weeks. The final 10 shorts will then be released in 2021.

 

The Wonderful World Of Mickey Mouse: Disney+ celebrates birthday with new animated shorts

Mickey Mouse and friends are heading to Disney+ in a new series of animated shorts.

From the team behind Disney Channel’s Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts, The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse will be released on the subscription streaming service to mark Mickey’s birthday this November. They will join all five seasons of the previous Disney Channel shorts, which ran for five seasons from 2013, picking up seven Primetime Emmys and two Daytime Emmys (plus 21 Annie Awards) along the way.

The new, 20-part series follows Mickey and his best pals – Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto – as they embark on a string of adventures, navigating the curveballs of a wild and zany world containing the magic of Disney. Each seven-minute short combines comedy and the classic art style of the Mickey shorts with modern settings and new music. The series will include stories inspired by various lands at Disney parks and cameos by classic Disney heritage characters.

The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse is produced by Disney Television Animation with Emmy Award-winning artist and director Paul Rudish serving as executive producer and supervising director. Christopher Willis, the Emmy Award-winning composer of the Mickey Mouse shorts, provides the music.

The Disney+ original series will debut on Wednesday 18th November, with two new shorts then arriving every Friday from 27th November. Ten shorts will premiere this year, with 10 additional shorts set for summer 2021.
