Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has found a streaming home on Disney+.
Directed by Sam Wrench, the concert movie gives audiences unable to secure tickets to Swift’s Eras Tour (and there are many, many people in that category) a chance to see the spectacle in full. The movie was released in cinemas last year, before going on to transactional VOD platforms an extended version of the cinema cut – including three songs not shown on the big screen, Long Live, The Archer and Wildest Dreams.
Now, Disney+ has announced that it will be streaming Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) – an extra-extended version that will include five additional songs not available in either the theatrical or digital versions. These bonus tracks will include Cardigan (from 2020’s Folklore album) and four additional acoustic songs. Speculation by Variety, based on the set lists of the concerts used for filming – from 3rd to 5th August 2023 in Los Angeles – suggest that the four songs will likely be Death by a Thousand Cuts, Maroon, You Are in Love and I Can See You.
The good news is that the fans won’t have to wait long to find out, with the film set to arrive on Disney+ worldwide on 15th March.
The news was announced by Disney CEO Bob Iger on the company’s quarterly earnings call – and will no doubt be a seen a positive boost to Disney+’s appeal, after dropping 1.3 million subscribers in the last three months of 2023 following its price hike and introduction of ads.
“The Eras Tour has been a true phenomenon that has and continues to thrill fans around the world, and we are very excited to bring this electrifying concert to audiences whenever they want, exclusively on Disney+,” said Iger.
Swift said on Instagram: “I’m thrilled to let you know I’ve found a streaming home for The Eras Tour Concert Film, and that home will be @disneyplus. For the first time we’ll be showing the entire concert (including ‘cardigan’, plus 4 additional songs from the acoustic section!!) and I’m calling it, huge shock, ‘Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version).’”
The news comes hot on the heels of Swift making Grammys history at the weekend, when Midnights won the album of the year prize for the fourth time. She took the opportunity to also announce her next studio album, The Tortured Poets Department.
The film will join Taylor Swift documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, which is already on Disney+ and was released in 2020.
