Trailer: Netflix’s Delhi Crime drops this March

In 2012, a heinous crime enraged a whole country. Based on the case files of the Delhi Police, Netflix’s new Indian original series takes us behind-the-scenes of the landmark investigation.
Created by Richie Mehta, the follows the unfailing determination of Varthika Chaturvedi, the investigating officer, to find the perpetrators of a fatal assault against a young woman on a bus. The result exposed corruption in the government and police. In a country with a history of denial and victim blaming, is due process possible?
The series premiered at Sundance this year, before Netflix promptly nabbed the programme for worldwide release. Only a few weeks later, Delhi Crime arrives on Netflix, with all episodes released on Friday 22nd March. Here’s the trailer:

Sundance: Netflix nabs Indian series Delhi Crime Story29th January 2019
Netflix has nabbed the rights to a new Indian crime thriller, Delhi Crime Story.
The seven-part series, which is directed by Indo-Canadian filmmaker Richie Mehta, is based on true events from 2012, when the fatal assault of a young woman on a bus exposed corruption in the government and police. The series follows a no-nonsense female commissioner who investigates the assault and murder of a young man and woman found in a ditch by the road, sparking a case that needs to be solved against the clock. In a country with a history of denial and victim blaming, is due process possible?
The procedural drama premiered its first two episodes at Sundance this week, with creator Mehta in attendance. Now, within days of its debut, Netflix has pounced on the rights to the programme.
The series is produced by Golden Karavan and Ivanhoe Pictures and stars Shefali Shah (Monsoon Wedding), Adil Hussain (Life of Pi), Denzil Smith (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Rasika Dugal (Qissa), Rajesh Tailang (Selection Day) and Yashaswini Dayama (Dear Zindagi).
“Delhi Crime is honest and emotional and powerful. Shows like this bring a much-needed lens to the lived reality of women around the world,” Simran Sethi, Netflix director, international originals, said in a statement.
The series will premiere on Netflix on Friday 22nd March 2019.
