Derren Brown’s The Push shoves its way on to Netflix next week.

The illusionist, who has consistently wowed audiences with his mind-bending tricks, has enjoyed growing success over the years. Now, after a live US debut last year and a successful run off-Broadway, he’s signed a new deal with Netflix for a brand new special.

Before that happens, though, Netflix has also bagged the rights to two previous specials, including The Push. That special, which first aired on Channel 4, sees the mentalist engineer an audacious social experiment demonstrating how manipulation can lead an ordinary person to commit an appalling act.

Derren Brown heads to Netflix for new special

Derren Brown is heading to Netflix.

The illusionist, who has consistently wowed audiences with his mind-bending tricks, has enjoyed a successful and long-running jump from the stage to the screen. Over the years, he has made TV series including Trick or Treat and Trick of the Mind, as well as Derren Brown Investigates. TV specials have included Seance, Russian Roulette, Messiah and The Heist, each one living up to their does-what-it-says-on-the-tin spectacle.

Now, Netflix has come knocking. The subscription service has snapped up the rights to two of his specials: The Push and Miracle, both of which aired on Channel 4 in the UK. The Push (or Pushed to the Edge) saw Brown convince someone to push someone else off a roof, while Miracle was a recorded version of his stage show, which adopted and subverted religious ideas. With Brown making a live US debut last year and a having a successful run off-Broadway, Netflix’s deal appears to confirm that he has officially made it in America.

Indeed, Netflix has ordered a brand new special to go with the above two. Details are under wraps, but Brown described it on Twitter as “big” and only completed filming it yesterday. Deadline notes that The Push will be released on Netflix on 27th February. Watch this space for more on what’s coming soon to Netflix next month.
