Amazon unveils trailer for Beautiful Boy

Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell are teaming up for Amazon’s new original film, Beautiful Boy, and a new trailer unveiled this week gives us a first look at the star-studded cast in action.
Based on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David (Carell) and Nic (Chalamet) Sheff, Beautiful Boy chronicles the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years.
Carell and Chalamet are joined by Maura Tierney and Amy Ryan as Karen, David’s second wife and Vicki, David’s ex-wife, who was removed from her son’s life following custody being award to David. In select theaters October 12.
The film is written by Lion screenwriter Luke Davies and The Broken Circle Breakdown’s Felix van Groeningen. van Groeningen will direct, with Plan B’s Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner on producing duties. The film will be released in US cinemas on 12th October 2018, before arriving on Amazon Prime Video at a later date. Watch this space for more information on its UK release. Steve Carell, Amy Ryan, Andre Royo to star in Amazon’s Beautiful Boy

Steve Carell and Amy Ryan will star in Amazon’s next original film, Beautiful Boy.
Based on David Sheff’s 2008 book Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction, the movie will tell the true story of journalist Scheff, whose son, Nic, developed a meth addiction. The memoir charts Nic’s addiction and its impact on his family, capturing a harrowing story of addiction and recovery.
The adaptation is written by Lion screenwriter Luke Davies and The Broken Circle Breakdown’s Felix van Groeningen. van Groeningen will direct, with Plan B’s Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner on producing duties.
Carell will play David, with Timothee Chalamet co-starring as Nic. After starring together in The Office, Ryan will reunite with Carell to play Vicki, Nic’s mother and David’s ex-wife, who was removed from her son’s life following primary custody being awarded to David. The Affair’s Maura Tierney will play Karen Barbour, David’s second wife, who is supportive of her husband’s efforts to help Nic, but not at the expense of raising their own two children.
They will lead an ensemble of familiar faces for Amazon Prime Video subscribers, with Timothy Hutton (soon to appear in Amazon’s Jack Ryan series) signing on for the project, and Hand of God’s Andre Royo set to play Spencer, Nic’s sponsor.
