Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher are heading to Netflix this February and a new trailer gives us a first look at their rom-com in action.
Your Place or Mine follows Debbie (Reese Witherspoon) and Peter (Ashton Kutcher), who are best friends and total opposites. She craves routine with her son in LA; he thrives on change in NY. When they swap houses and lives for a week they discover what they think they want might not be what they really need.
Directed by writer Aline Brosh McKenna in her helming debut – and produced by Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan’s Aggregate Films – the film premieres on 10th February, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Here’s the trailer:
Ashton Kutcher joins Reese Witherspoon in Netflix’s Your Place or Mine
5th August 2021
Ashton Kutcher will join Reese Witherspoon in Netflix’s Your Place or Mine.
The romantic comedy, based on an original script by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), follows two best friends who live on opposite coasts of the USA. When they swap homes for a week, their whole lives change.
The film is directed by McKenna in what will be her feature debut. It is produced by Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan’s Aggregate Films, which has a first-look deal with Netflix, and Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine. All three will produce, along with Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine and McKenna for Lean Machine. Hello Sunshine’s impressive back catalogue now ranges from Apple TV+ drama The Morning Show to HBO’s Big Little Lies and Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere.
Rom-com stalwart Kutcher is no stranger to Netflix, having starred in and exec-produced The Ranch.
Reese Witherspoon heads to Netflix for Your Place or Mine and The Cactus
13th May 2020
Reese Witherspoon is reteaming with Netflix for two new romantic comedies, Your Place or Mine and The Cactus.
Witherspoon has emerged as a major player behind the camera as well as in front of it. Forming Hello Sunshine back in 2016, her production company has since given the world Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere, HBO’s Big Little Lies, Apple TV+’s Truth Be Told and the film Wild.
The company is no stranger to Netflix, with both announcing The Home Edit, a lifestyle series, in 2019, as well as From Scratch, a limited series starring Zoe Saldana. Sci-fi thriller Pyros, starring Witherspoon, was also snapped up by Netflix last summer.
Now, she’s heading back to Netflix once more to produce and star in two romantic comedies.
Your Place or Mine, produced by Aggregate Films’ Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan, marks the feature directorial debut of Aline Brosh McKenna, a writer on The Devil Wears Prada and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It follows two long-distance friends who change each other’s lives when one decides to pursue a lifelong dream and the other volunteers to keep an eye on her teen son.
The Cactus is based on Sarah Haywood’s bestselling novel of the same name. It follows a reserved woman who, after an unexpected pregnancy at 45, has to rethink her structured life and go on an unconventional journey toward love, family and learning.
“We have been looking for the right feature opportunities to collaborate with Ted Sarandos, Scott Stuber and the entire team at Netflix for a while and we couldn’t be more excited to be working with them on these two romantic comedies,” said Witherspoon in a statement. “Both Sarah Haywood’s and Aline Brosh McKenna’s stories blend everything we love about traditional RomComs with strong, smart and determined female leads.”
Aggregate’s Costigan added: “Jason and I are thrilled to be producing Aline’s feature directorial debut with our great friends and partners at Netflix, and with a giant talent and friend like Reese and Hello Sunshine. This is the perfect home for our movie, and with the ideal creative partners to be making a sophisticated and very contemporary romantic comedy that we believe global audiences will be excited to see.”
Head of Netflix Films’ Scott Stuber commented: “We are thrilled to work alongside our long-standing partners and friends, Jason and Michael at Aggregate on Your Place or Mine. They brought us this brilliantly funny romantic comedy from Aline that we immediately fell in love with and can’t wait to work with the Aggregate and Hello Sunshine teams on bringing it to life. Reese and her team at Hello Sunshine have made a tremendous mark on the industry and we’re excited to have found two terrific projects to collaborate with them on.”
