“Kidnapping, cults, death… your friendships are a little more complicated than most.” That’s the sound of Yellowjackets returning for a second season, with new cast member Elijah Wood in tow.

Part survival epic, part psychological horror story and part coming-of-age drama, the series charts the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness.

Season 1 starred Melanie Lynskey (Castle Rock) as former star pupil Shauna, Juliette Lewis (Camping) as punk girl Natalie, Christina Ricci (Z: The Beginning of Everything) as assistant coach Misty and Tawny Cypress (Unforgettable) as over-achieving political hopeful Taissa, along with Ella Purnell (Sweetbitter) as team captain Jackie, Samantha Hanratty (SHAMELESS) as young Misty, Sophie Thatcher (Prospect) as young Natalie, Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers) as young Taissa, Sophie Nélisse (The Book Thief) as young Shauna, Steven Krueger (The Originals) as assistant coach Ben and Warren Kole (Shades of Blue) as student Jeff.

Wood plays Walter, a “dedicated Citizen Detective who will challenge Misty in ways she won’t see coming”. You can see him in action when Season 2 premieres in the US on 24th March on Showtime. In the UK, you can expect it to debut on 25th March 2023, within 24 hours of its Stateside release, on Paramount+ UK. Here’s the new video:

Also joining the cast are Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under, Servant) and Simone Kessell (Obi-Wan Kenobi) as the adult version of Vanessa and Lottie.

You can see them in action in March 2023. In the US, Season 2 will debut on 24th March on Showtime. In the UK, you can expect it to debut on 25th March 2023, within 24 hours of its Stateside release, on Paramount+ UK, after Season 1 debuted on Sky Atlantic. Here’s the first teaser:

 

Elijah Wood joins Yellowjackets for Season 2

Elijah Wood has joined the cast of Yellowjackets for its second season.

The actor, best known for playing Frodo in The Lord of the Rings, has since gone on to star in all manner of genre fare, from superhero comedy horror The Toxic Avenger to darkly comic thriller Come to Daddy and the offbeat comedy series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. Now, he’s heading to the small screen again to join Yellowjackets in what will be a season-long guest arc.

Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson (Narcos), Yellowjackets is equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story and coming-of-age drama. It charts the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.

Ambrose, who starred in Six Feet Under and can currently be seen in Apple TV+ thriller Servant, will play the adult version of Vanessa. Kessell, who played Princess Leia’s mother, Breha Organa, in Obi-Wan Kenobi and has appeared in Taika Watiti’s Our Flag Means Death, will play the adult version of Lottie.

Production will begin on Season 2 of Yellowjackets later this month in Vancouver.
