Nomadland, Soul and My Octopus Teacher led the winners at the Producers Guild of America awards this week.

The PGA prizes, which are often a key indicator of Oscars success, were unveiled virtually by presenters including Viola Davis and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Searchlight Pictures’ Nomadland was the big triumph of the evening, with Chloé Zhao’s film taking home the Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures prize, building on its wins at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards and beating competition from Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Judas and the Black Messiah, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Mank, Minari, One Night in Miami, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal and The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Soul, which debuted on Disney+ at Christmas, won the Animated Film prize, while Netflix’s My Octopus Teacher took home the Documentary prize.

TV winners included Schitt’s Creek, which came out on top in the Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television – Comedy category in its final season, and two prizes for Netflix: The Crown for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television – Drama and The Queen’s Gambit for Limited Series. Netflix is also the UK home of docuseries The Last Dance, which won in the Non-Fiction Television race. Disney+’s Hamilton, meanwhile, won Outstanding Producer of Televised or Streamed Motion Pictures.
