Nic Cage is finally making his Netflix debut, and not in the way you might expect. The Face/Off and Con Air star will be leading an educational push on the streaming platform – the subject of his informative documentary series? The History of Swear Words.
“It is a thing of great wonder and mystery…” he begins in the new trailer announcing the comedy programme, which sees him describing a naughty word with the kind of conviction that only the star of Ghost Rider, Mandy and Color Out of Space could bring.
It marks the third project Cage has in the works for streaming platforms, following a Tiger King drama and the series Hellfire at Amazon Studios. Comprising six episodes, the series will feature not only Cage but also linguists and cognitive scientists, plus celebrity guests including London Hughes, Jim Jefferies, Nick Offerman, Sarah Silverman and Isiah Whitlock Jr. The show is produced by Funny or Die and Industrial Media’s B17 Entertainment, with Bellamie Blackstone on board as showrunner.
The official synopsis for the programme reads: “Nicolas Cage hosts this proudly profane series that explores the history and impact of some of the most notorious bad words in the English language. Watch all you want.”
You can delve into its foul-mouthed wonders on 5th January, when the show premieres worldwide on Netflix. Here’s the trailer:
