The fantasy epic, based on Neil Gaiman’s graphic novels, is set in the dangerous, irresistible realm of the Dreaming. The series follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human – mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.
“This confident, spellbinding adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic books won’t have you drifting off,” we wrote in our review.
While millions have people have watched the show, though, it has been a long wait since the show’s debut for Netflix to decide whether to order more episodes or not. Now, Neil Gaiman has confirmed that The Sandman will officially return for Season 2, with new episodes and stories to be adapted.
“Millions upon millions of people have welcomed and watched and loved The Sandman on Netflix, from established Sandman fans to people who were simply curious, and then became obsessed with the Lord of Dreams, his family and their goings-on,” Gaiman said in a statement. “It gives me unbelievable pleasure to say that, working with Netflix and Warner Bros., Allan Heinberg, David Goyer and I will be bringing even more of The Sandman stories to life.”
Season 2 will dive deeper into the conflict between Dream (Tom Sturridge) and Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie) and continue to explore the many challenges facing the universe in the wake of Morpheus’ century-long absence.
“There are some astonishing stories waiting for Morpheus and the rest of them (not to mention more members of the Endless Family to meet),” Gaiman continued. “Nobody is going to be happier about this than the Sandman cast and crew: They are the biggest Sandman fans there are. And now it’s time to get back to work. There’s a family meal ahead, after all. And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell…”
The rumours are true. Netflix is thrilled that so many of you have been watching Sandman, and the thing we were all hoping would happen… has indeed happened… pic.twitter.com/zc5CrhsdZK
