Castlevania’s fourth and final season set for May release
18th April 2021
Castlevania will return to Netflix next month for its fourth season – and that will also be its last, the streamer has confirmed.
The animation, inspired by the classic videogame series, is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, who is trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hands of the forces of night. Written by Warren Ellis, who exec-produced alongside Adi Shankar, Fred Seibert and Kevin Kolde, and starring Richard Armitage, the show was a hit for Netflix when it premiered back in 2018, with a second season ordered before Season 1 had even dropped. A third season was also swiftly ordered hot off the debut of Season 2, and last year, Netflix again sank its teeth into the franchise with Season 4 ordered within days of the third run dropping online.
Now, however, the show is coming to an end, and the 10-episode fourth run will be the show’s last. Deadline, however, reports that a spin-off could be in the works, with Netflix “eyeing a new series set in the same Castlevania universe with an entirely new cast of characters”. The news comes after Warren Ellis stepped away from the project last year, following allegations of sexual misconduct that he denied. Ellis is also reportedly not involved in the spin-off conversations.
Season 4 will premiere on Netflix on 13th May. Here’s the teaser confirming the release date:

Netflix renews Castlevania for Season 4
30th March 2020
Netflix has renewed Castlevania for a fourth season.
The animation, inspired by the classic videogame series, is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, who is trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hands of the forces of night. Written by Warren Ellis, who exec-produces alongside Adi Shankar, Fred Seibert and Kevin Kolde, and starring Richard Armitage, the show was a hit for Netflix when it premiered back in 2018, with a second season ordered before Season 1 had even dropped. A third season was also swiftly ordered hot off the debut of Season 2, and now, Netflix is sinking its teeth into the franchise again with Season 4 ordered within days of the third run dropping online.
The streaming giant announced the news this weekend on its official Twitter account, with Devil Forgemaster Isaac revealing the renewal in a short clip.
There’s no word, of course, on what the fourth season will have in store, but with Season 3 upping the action and leaving things in an interesting place, fans will be eagerly anticipating the programme’s return – even, though, judging by the production time on Season 3, that may be some way off.
