“Tell her this a mistake.” “Dad, she hears everything you’re saying.”
That’s the sound of Dustin Hoffman as Harold Meyerowitz, the strong-filled patriarch of the Meyerowitz family, whose lives are far from functional. And with Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, and Elizabeth Marvel playing those siblings, that dysfunction is set to be as hilarious as it is sad, judging by the new trailer for The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected).
The emotional, and comic intergenerational tale of adult siblings contending with the long shadow their dad has cast over their lives, the film is the latest offering from writer and director Noah Baumbach.
“Split into chapters, replicating short stories, The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) is top-tier Noah Baumbach and it’s really beautiful to see Sandler giving it his all and crafting such a warmhearted but damaged character,” we wrote in our review of the movie when it premiered at Cannes this year, “while Stiller – a Baumbach regular – is very funny as the youngest Meyerowitz, doing his best to distance himself from his father and siblings, but realising home is where the heart is.”
With the film also starring Emma Thompson, Grace Van Patten and Adam Driver, it’s perhaps no surprise that the movie was snapped up by Netflix just ahead of its premiere on the Croisette. Now, it’s finally arriving on our screens, with a premiere at the London Film Festival followed by a Netflix release worldwide on Friday 13th October.
Here’s the new, full trailer for the film:

Netflix nabs Noah Baumbach’s The Meyerowitz Stories
11th April 2017
Noah Baumbach is heading to Netflix. The streaming giant has bought the global rights to the Frances Ha director’s latest film, The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected).
The deal with IAC Films will see the film get a limited theatrical release later this year, alongside a global Netflix release. Baumbach, who has been a distinct voice in cinema for years, earning an Oscar nomination for his 2005 film The Squid and the Whale, joins a growing line of impressive names on Netflix’s slate of indie acquisitions.
“Noah Baumbach is an important voice in American filmmaking and his films are always highly anticipated around the world. Noah is among the filmmakers that we were eager to work with, and I know that film enthusiasts everywhere will be as moved by this film as we were,” says Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer. “We’re thrilled to be the avenue by which global audiences will be able to see the film.”
Written and directed by Baumbach, the film is described as “the intergenerational tale of adult siblings contending with the influence of their ageing father”.
The deal also marks a reunion between Netflix and Adam Sandler, with the Punch-Drunk Love star leading a cast that includes Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman, Elizabeth Marvel (Homeland, House of Cards), Grace Van Patten (Tramps, Stealing Cars) and Emma Thompson.
The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) is produced by Scott Rudin, Baumbach, Lila Yacoub and Eli Bush.
