“Freedom is priceless. We take it for granted,” says one talking head in the new trailer for Netflix’s Captive.
The docu-series delves into the terse, dangerous world of hostage negotiation, as victims, negotiators, and kidnappers give an unprecedented look at what it means to be captive.
From the CEO of Coca-Cola to people kept from their home for six months, the trailer gives us a glimpse of the variety of situations that the streaming giant’s show will bring to life. And while it seems highly stylised in its presentation, it certainly looks gripping.
All episodes of Captive will premiere on Netflix on Friday 9th December.

Netflix is taking its true crime documentary arm to the next level with a new series all about hostages.
Captive looks at the “mysterious world and commercial underpinnings behind the most complex and high-stakes hostage crises in modern history”.
The project is conceived and produced by Lightbox, the company founded by Academy Award-winning producer Simon Chinn (Man on Wire, Searching for Sugar Man) and Emmy Award-winning Jonathan Chinn (American High, 30 Days), in partnership with Hypnotic, the company founded by director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity), Dave Bartis and Gene Klein.

“We are incredibly proud to be partnering with this exceptional team of storytellers to bring this project to Netflix,” adds Lisa Nishimura, Netflix Vice President of Original Documentary Programming. “This series pairs Lightbox’s experience making award-winning narrative documentaries with the cinematic pedigree of Doug Liman, whose renowned body of work has established him as a true expert in the portrayal of covert affairs, reconnaissance and espionage.”
