Netflix must really like their original series Lilyhammer, because they’ve just announced Season 3 will be released on the Internet TV service in 2014.
The comic drama starring Steven Van Zandt (The Sopranos) as a mob fixer who enters the witness protection programme in the titular Norwegian village, was brought to Netflix for a second season in December 2013. Now, while many will still be working their way through the programme’s encore, the company have already announced another run of episodes to be released later this year.
“We are proud to bring back Lilyhammer for a third season,” says Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix. “Lilyhammer is the type of global show that Netflix members around the world have discovered and love and season three will see that world expand even more.”
Season two sees Frank living under the alias of Johnny Henriksen, a successful nightclub owner and father of two. As if life couldn’t get more complicated than balancing fatherhood with running a criminal operation, everything Frank cares for is threatened when his former mob associates find out he is still alive.
With three seasons quickly stashed under Netflix’s belt, the question is: when will they announce a fourth? After all, the show clearly has legs – it’s only when they rename it Blackpool or Skegness that fans should start to worry.
