My5 is now available on Google Chromecast.
Channel 5’s VOD service, which replaced Demand 5 last year, lets viewers catch up on titles from across the broadcaster’s network, including Channel 5, 5STAR, 5USA and Spike. The revamped platform has enjoyed steady growth since, with views up 22 per cent year-on-year.
“Today’s announcement builds on My5’s position as the most widely distributed commercial broadcaster VOD service in the UK,” commented James Tatam, Director of Digital Media & Commercial Development for Channel 5. “Chromecast is a fantastic device and by utilising this technology to broaden out My5’s reach and availability, we’re giving our viewers even more choice and flexibility when it comes to their favourite content.””
Edward Kenney, Head of Chromecast Partnerships, UK at Google said: “Channel 5 has built a great VOD offering, and with Google Chromecast, viewers can stream everything they love from My5 to the big screen, directly from their phone or tablet. Users will be delighted with the addition of My5 to the broad list of services already available on Chromecast.”
Indeed, My5 completes Chromecast’s set of Freeview streaming services, making it one of the relatively few devices to support All 4, ITV Hub and BBC iPlayer as well.
The service’s most popular catch–up content includes Celebrity Big Brother, The Yorkshire Vet, Gotham, Lip Sync Battle UK, GPs: Behind Closed Doors and The X-Files. Channel 5 is stepping up its on-demand acquisitions too, with Australian relationship drama Wonderland exclusively starting in January.
