MUBI GO is expanding into Showcase Cinemas in the UK.
Launched last year, the app gives MUBI subscribers a ticket to a hand-picked film in cinemas every single week. Users of the VOD platform are able to access the MUBI GO service through the MUBI GO app. The ticket code generated can then be presented each week at participating cinemas to claim one complimentary cinema ticket.
Partnering distributors Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate, StudioCanal, Thunderbird, Dogwoof, Altitude, Vertigo, Modern Films, Park Circus and eOne have collaborated on the initiative so far. Now, its exhibitor list is growing too, with Showcase Cinemas in the UK joining the initiative, as well as several Irish cinemas, including the Irish Film Institute in Dublin, Triskel Arts Centre in Cork and three VUE cinemas. As part of the expansion, MUBI aim to align films on MUBI GO being released in the UK and Ireland at the same time as well as working with Ireland based distributors and Access Cinema. MUBI is available in Ireland for €8.99 a month and in the UK for £9.99 a month.
Existing partners include Curzon, the Barbican, ICA, Genesis and Rio Cinema in London, Watershed in Bristol, HOME in Manchester, the GFT in Glasgow, the Showroom in Sheffield, Chapter in Cardiff, Broadway in Nottingham, The QFT in Belfast, DCA in Dundee, the Depot in Lewes, The Picturehouse in Uckfield, Eden Court in Inverness and Filmhouse in Edinburgh and VUE Cinema Group sites throughout the country.
Recently MUBI GO titles have included Jacques Audiard’s THE SISTERS BROTHERS, Yorgos Lanthimos’s THE FAVOURITE, Barry Jenkins’s IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK, Ali Abassi’s BORDER and David Robert Mitchell’s UNDER THE SILVER LAKE.
