New trailer lands for Netflix’s Naked

Imagine living the same day over and over again. Now imagine living the same day over and over again without clothes.
That’s the basic pitch for Marlon Wayans’ new comedy, which is heading straight to Netflix this summer. The streaming service made its name with prestige TV drama, such as House of Cards, but has increasingly branched out with its Netflix original projects, most notably in the comedy arena, which has seen Adam Sandler and Kevin James get their own Netflix original films, alongside other mixed efforts from Bob Odenkirk and, most recently, the uneven Memento-like Shimmer Lake.
Backing talent with an in-built audience appears to be a factor in Netflix’s commissioning, with Adam Sandler singled out by the streaming service as a hugely popular figure among subscribers. So, as Scary Movie 2 and 3 arrive on Netflix UK this weekend, it’s perhaps no surprise that the site should also unveil its new trailer for Marlon Wayans’ latest film.
He plays Rob Anderson, who wakes up nude in a lift in Charleston, where he hopes to marry Megan Swope (Regina Hall). But things are already set to go wrong: he hasn’t written his vows, learned the steps for the first dance, or remembered to bring the ring. And so he does what any rational man would the night before the big day: he decides to shirk his responsibilities and go out on the town with his best man (Jonathan Todd Jackson). Fast forward to the morning and it’s Groundhog O’Clock, with Rob having one hour to get to the church in time to get hitched – or, with any luck, grow up and become the man his fiancée deserves.
Based on the Swedish film, Naken, the movie is written by Cory Koller, Marlon Wayans and Rick Alvarez, with Wayans, Alvarez (White Chicks), Todd Garner (The True Memoirs of an International Assassin) and Ryan Lewis (Chosen) serving as producers, and Sean Robins, Michael Flynn and Paul Hanson on board as exec producers.
The film premieres on Netflix worldwide on 11th August. Here’s the new trailer:
Trailer: Wayans gets Naked on Netflix
11th March 2017
Marlon Wayans will get Naked on Netflix this summer – and not just once.
The comedy, first announced last year, sees Rob Anderson (Wayans) wake up nude in an elevator on the day of his wedding. And then relive that day over and over again. Think Groundhog Day, but with a naked man in a lift.
Anderson’s lift is located in Charleston, where he hopes to marry Megan Swope (Regina Hall). But things are already set to go wrong: he hasn’t written his vows, learned the steps for the first dance, or remembered to bring the ring. And so he does what any rational man would the night before the big day: he decides to shirk his responsibilities and go out on the town with his best man (Jonathan Todd Jackson). Marlon Wayans is getting Naked with Netflix
23rd September 2016
Netflix has greenlit a new film from Marlon Wayans.
Naked will see the star of White Chicks and Scary Movie team up with Regina Hall (Think Like A Man, About Last Night) once more for a romantic comedy.
Based on the Swedish film, Naken, the film reunites Wayans with director Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House, Fifty Shades of Black) and is written by Cory Koller, Marlon Wayans and Rick Alvarez.
“The response I’ve gotten from fans worldwide to my films on Netflix has been overwhelming, and I’m thrilled to be working with them on an original film. Also, I’m excited to be working with Regina again,” says Wayans.
He plays Rob Anderson, a charming man-child, who wakes up on his wedding day, naked in an elevator, reliving the hour before the ceremony over and over again. Marlon Wayans, Rick Alvarez (White Chicks, Marlon), Todd Garner (The True Memoirs of an International Assassin) and Ryan Lewis (Chosen) serve as producers, with Sean Robins, Michael Flynn and Paul Hanson on board as executive producers.
The film is slated to go into production in Charleston, South Carolina in October and will premiere globally on Netflix in 2017.
