Harlem’s queens take to the stage in Luke Cage Season 2 trailer

“You don’t need to be bullet-proof to be a superhero.” That’s the sound of Harlem’s queens taking to the stage in Luke Cage Season 2. Alfre Woodard once again shines as Mariah Dillard in a new trailer for the season, which reframes the narrative away from the invincible men on the streets and onto the Black women behind the scenes competing for control.
As The Fugees’ Ready or Not belts out in the background, we see Mariah almost use Luke as a pawn to defeat Bushmaster, the purported new threat to the city – and even if that’s just a fraction of how big a role she has to play in Marvel’s drama, it’s more than enough reason to tune in. Indeed, the latest trailer follows a clip that sees Colleen Wing and Misty Knight make their own mark, promising a sophomore run for the show that not only gives us plenty of Mike Colter’s Cage but also plenty of other power players posing a threat.
Luke Cage Season 2 premieres on Friday 22nd June. Here’s the trailer:
Misty and Colleen kick butt in new Luke Cage Season 2 clip
4th June 2018
One of the best things about Luke Cage’s first season was the way it gave screentime to its female characters, in particular police officer Misty Knight. With Season 2 on the way this month, a new clip promises to give us not only more of Misty, but also more of Colleen Wing, who also happened to be the best thing about Iron Fist.
In Season 2, Misty is grappling with the loss of her arm. She feels powerless and alone, but she’s not. She finds solace in friend, Colleen, who (with some tough love) inspires Misty to reclaim her power – and that power is certainly something not to be missed with, judging by this new clip, which sees the pair kicking butt in a bar without needing anyone’s help.
The series returns to Netflix on Friday 22nd June. Here’s the new video:
The cracks begin to show in new Luke Cage Season 2 clip
23rd May 2018
The cracks are beginning to show in the latest clip from Netflix’s Luke Cage.
After clearing his name, the unbreakable man (Mike Colter) has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.
We’ve already had a glimpse of that foe in action, but equally challenging is the personal struggle facing the Hero of Harlem, as being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save – even as he’s harassed by angry neighbours. Season 2 launches on Netflix on 22nd June. Here’s the new video:
New trailer lands for Luke Cage Season 2
7th May 2018
“Everybody talkin’ about Luke Cage like he’s Jesus…”
This summer sees the second coming of Hell’s Kitchen’s toughest superhero, as Luke Cage is back for round two – and the new trailer suggests he has an impressive fight on his hands.
Colter reprises his role as Power Man, joined by Annabella Sciorra as dangerous underworld power player Rosalie Carbone, and returning cast members Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Alfre Woodard (Mariah Dillard), and Theo Rossi (Hernan ‘Shades’ Alvarez).
Cheo Hodari Coker also returns as showrunner, taking the series into interesting new territory, with Luke becoming a celebrity on the streets of Harlem, his reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But while his name might be cleared, being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. And all that is about to put to the test with the rise of a formidable new foe – whose ability to land a blow on the invincible man sees him go equally viral on the web. That foe, who we now get to see properly for the first time, is Bushmaster (Mustafa Shakir), a tough gangland veteran with the real name John Irving. Gabrielle Dennis (Girl’s Trip) has also joined the show as Dr. Tilda Johnson, aka. Nightshade.
How far is too far? Find out as Luke confronts the fine line between hero and villain on Friday 22nd June. Here’s the new trailer:
Luke Cage shows off in new Season 2 clip
28th April 2018
Luke Cage is showing off in our first clip from Season 2 of Netflix’s superhero series.
After all, what else does a superhero do when they’re in the public eye?
Heading back to Harlem, Cage is no longer a man living a quiet life, with his powers highly visible to everyone around him – good news for those who need a hero, but bad news for a man who just wants some peace, as all kinds of people are set to go toe-to-toe with the unbreakable man.
After clearing his name, Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. And this new clip gives us a chance to see what that fame does to an everyday hero, as he enjoys himself by competing in the physical and mental tests of the combine event – not unlike the NFL Draft that college football players are currently going through. Released as that annual sporting tradition continues, the clip gives us a taste of a relaxed Cage, impressing New York Jets Head Coach Todd Bowles and Jemele Hill and Michael Smith.
But you can expect that cheerful tone to disappear quickly: being so visible to the world has only increased Cage’s need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. With the rise of a formidable new foe – Rosalie Carbone (Annabella Sciorra), a dangerous downtown criminal underworld power player with an eye, and an agenda, toward Harlem – Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.
All 13 episodes of Season 2 premiere on Friday 22nd June. Here’s the new video:
Annabella Sciorra joins Luke Cage Season 2
19th March 2018
Annabella Sciorra has joined the cast of Season 2.
The Emmy-nominated veteran of The Sopranos won fans with her role of Gloria Trillo in HBO’s crime saga, but is no stranger to Netflix: she will have a recurring role in Season 2 of the streaming service’s wrestling comedy G.L.OW.. Before then, she’s heading to Hell’s Kitchen to join Mike Colter’s unbreakable hero.
Sciorra will play Rosalie Carbone, a dangerous downtown criminal underworld power player with an eye, and an agenda, toward Harlem. The character may also hint at a potential crossover between Luke Cage and another of Marvel’s series, The Punisher: in the comics, Castle and Carbone have a brief affair.
Sciorra joins returning cast members Colter, Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Alfre Woodard (Mariah Dillard), and Theo Rossi (Hernan ‘Shades’ Alvarez).
Luke Cage’s Executive Producer and Showrunner, Cheo Hodari Coker, comments: “I’ve been a huge fan of hers since Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, and Anabella Sciorra is no joke as Rosalie Carbone. You haven’t seen her this gangster since her thrilling turn as Tony’s formidable flame Gloria Trillo on Season 3 of The Sopranos. I’m thrilled her introduction to the Marvel Universe will be on Marvel’s Luke Cage.”
“We couldn’t be happier to be working with such an incredible talent,” adds Jeph Loeb, “Marvel’s Luke Cage” Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Television. “This character is complex and layered and Annabella is the perfect actress to portray her.”
After clearing his name, Season 2 sees Luke Cage become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so well known has only increased the pressure he feels to protect the community. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.
All 13 episodes will premiere on Friday 22nd June.
