Kerry Washington is reteaming with Netflix for an adaption of Diane Cardwell’s memoir, Rockaway.
Published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Rockaway was named by Outside Magazine as one of the Best Adventure Travel Books of the Year. The film is being adapted by Nichelle Tramble Spellman (Truth Be Told), with Kerry Washington on board to produce as well as star.
She will play Cardwell, a Manhattan journalist who, on a routine assignment, unexpectedly discovers the transcendent power of surfing – and finds herself running from the comfortable life she’s always known towards a life of romance and self-discovery in eclectic Rockaway Beach.
The film is a co-production with Liza Chasin’s 3dot Productions, Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street, and Aevitas Entertainment. Liza Chasin, who has a multi-year first-look deal with Netflix, will produce for 3dot Productions, Kerry Washington and Pilar Savone for Simpson Street and Todd Shuster for Aevitas Entertainment. Cardwell and Margaret Chernin will serve as executive producers.
