“If there’s a scandal, I shall uncover it – and share every last detail.” That’s the promise of Lady Whistledown in Shondaland’s new series Bridgerton, and the new trailer for the show promises a spicy dose of scandal to savour.
Created by longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator Chris Van Dusen (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice), Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parent’s footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem to be unrivaled. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne. Enter the highly desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), committed bachelor and the catch of the season for the debutantes’ mamas. Despite proclaiming that they want nothing the other has to offer, their attraction is undeniable and sparks fly as they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.
Inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels, the series co-stars Golda Rosheuvel, Jonathan Bailey and Luke Newton, with Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown.
The series premieres on 25th December. Here’s the trailer:

Julie Andrews to voice Lady Whistledown in Netflix and Bridgerton series
20th June 2019
Julie Andrews will voice Lady Whistledown in Netflix and Shondaland’s new Bridgerton series.
The untitled Shondaland series is based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling series of novels, and set in the sexy, lavish and competitive world of Regency London high society. From the glittering ballrooms of Mayfair to the aristocratic palaces of Park Lane and beyond, the series unveils a seductive, sumptuous world replete with intricate rules and dramatic power struggles, where no one is truly ever on steady ground.
At the heart of the show is the powerful Bridgerton family. Comprised of eight close-knit siblings, this funny, witty, daring and clever group must navigate the upper ten thousand’s marriage mart in search of romance, adventure and love.
Andrews will lend her distinctive voice to the character of Lady Whistledown, a sharp-tongued gossip writer who remains anonymous to readers and uses a mix of social commentary and scathing insult to send the season of 1813’s ton into an all-out frenzy.
Although she continues to receive offers for films and TV as an actress, Andrews is often focused on work behind the camera, including Operation USA, an international relief organisation. She is no stranger to Netflix, though; in 2016, she co-created, wrote and executive produced Julie’s Greenroom, a children’s television series about the arts, created for Netflix in partnership with the Jim Henson Company. The series earned three Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Preschool Children’s Series and Outstanding Writing in a Children’s, Pre-School Children’s or Family Viewing Program.
This untitled new series is created by Chris Van Dusen, who exec-produces alongside Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers. Netflix has ordered eight episodes to premiere in 2020.
