Netflix unveils trailer for James Acaster’s Repertoire

“That’s disgusting, unnatural and I’m glad you told me.” That’s the sound of James Acaster connecting with the world, four times over, as he heads to Netflix in unique style. Where most stand-up comedians are content with releasing one special on the streaming site at a time, the British comic has recorded a whole mini-series of his work, which lands all in one go this month.
Titled Repertoire, the four shows were recorded last year at Notting Hill’s Tabernacle Theatre, comprising his three Edinburgh-nominated specials – Recognise, Represent and Reset. – and a fourth, Recap, which promises to fill the gaps between them.
“Three of the shows are just the shows as they were, because they’re kind of linked together anyway I wanted to put them out at the same time and not separately,” he explained. “And then, I was touring all of them this year and while I was touring them I came up with a fourth one, which is even older material but more of a greatest hits kind of thing with a different narrative. It’s four shows that belong together and I wouldn’t really want to release them individually, it wouldn’t make sense.”
Repertoire hits Netflix on 27th March and now, a new trailer gives us a glimpse of what Acaster has in store. Here’s the video:
James Acaster to release Netflix miniseries of four stand-up specials
17th February 2018
James Acaster is heading to Netflix this March for a series of new stand-up specials – but not stand-up as you know it.
The comic, who has been nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award five times, is the latest in a line of UK talent to record a special for the streaming giant, following in the footsteps of other comedians such as Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle, Katherine Ryan, Jack Whitehall and Bridget Christie.
Acaster, though, is taking a different approach to the whole idea, not releasing one show, but four at once, to form a miniseries with their own overarching narrative. The four shows include his three Edinburgh-nominated specials: Recognise, Represent and Reset. He has been touring those for some time as a “Trelogy”, performing one of the three on each, different night. During that process, though, he came up with a fourth, Recap, which fills the gaps between them.
The shows were filmed last year at Notting Hill’s Tabernacle Theatre. Acaster first announced the news then on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, which was picked up by Chortle.
Now, Acaster has taken to Twitter to announce that Netflix’s first stand-up comedy miniseries, Repertoire, will be released worldwide on 27th March.
“Amazing work by everyone involved & I’m very excited for the world to see what we’ve made,” he tweeted.
He’s no stranger to the world of streaming, teaming up with Dave for a YouTube series of spoof TED Talks, as well as presenting BBC Three’s web series Sounds Random – “Desert Island Discs without limits” – and guest starring on the online channel’s sitcom, Josh.
