“To the first blind date of my life. Hope you’re not a serial killer.” That’s the sound of Netflix entering the dating scene this Valentine’s Day, as the streaming giant looks to find love with reality TV fans.
Netflix has been making a major push into reality TV in the last year, with shows such as Terrace House, Queer Eye and Nailed It!, as well the rights to RuPaul’s Drag Race in the UK and old seasons of ITV’s Love Island. Last year, it also bought the international production rights to Channel 4’s The Circle to make its own localised versions of the programme. But one water that Netflix hasn’t really dipped its toe into yet is dating.
Dating on TV is enjoying something of a moment, with Channel 4’s First Dates and The Undateables dominating the popular genre – not to mention the newly launched Flirty Dancing, and Channel 5’s reboot of Blind Date, with Paul O’Grady. Now, Netflix is hoping that viewers will swipe right on its own “first blind date” series, Dating Around.
The show sees six real-life singles navigate five first dates in every episode. Their mission: Find one perfect match worthy of a second date. Who will get asked out again? Find out on Thursday 14th February, when Netflix starts dating around. Because who doesn’t want a night in with Netflix?

Dating Around is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
