Professor T will return to ITV and BritBox UK for Season 2.

The series, based on the hit Belgian series of the same name, stars Ben Miller Jasper Tempest, Professor of Criminology at Cambridge University. He is obsessed with cleanliness, structure and order but his genius for solving crimes means he is constantly having to get his hands dirty, helping the police to crack their most difficult cases.

He is joined by Frances de la Tour (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The History Boys) as his colourful, but overbearing mother, Adelaide. Emma Naomi (Bridgerton, Blithe Spirit, The Trial of Christine Keeler) co-stars as Detective Inspector Lisa Donckers and rising star Barney White plays her police sidekick Dan Winters.

The remake is produced by Eagle Eye Drama, which was formed by Walter Iuzzolino, Jo McGrath and Jason Thorp, the same three founders and creative team behind the global drama platform Walter Presents, which introduced the original Belgian show to UK audiences.

Airing on ITV during the summer, the launch episode of Season 1 attracted an impressive 5.41m viewers on ITV (28 day consolidated), also performing strongly in the US where it was broadly carried by local PBS stations and is streaming on the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel, pbs.org and the PBS Video app.

Season 2 will see Jasper Tempest and his mother Adelaide seek help from a therapist, which in turn will uncover more secrets from Professor T’s troubled childhood. The Professor will continue to help the police solve unusual crimes, rekindling his former relationship with Chief Inspector Christina Brand played by Juliet Aubrey.  Meanwhile Professor T’s protégé Inspector Lisa Donckers played by Emma Naomi (Bridgerton) begins to regret prioritising her career over her budding relationship with police partner Dan Winters played by Barney White.    

Leading Belgian director, Dries Vos, will return to direct the second season, which will once again be filmed in Belgium and Cambridge, during the spring of 2022, with Executive Producers Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino. The series is again written by Matt Baker and Malin-Sarah Gozin.

ITV’s remake of Professor T will launch on BritBox in the UK this June.

The series is directed by leading Belgian director, Indra Siera, and was filmed in Belgium and Cambridge. It will be broadcast on ITV later this summer, but before then, the whole box set of all six episodes will be released exclusively on BritBox UK on 3rd June.

ITV orders Professor T remake starring Ben Miller

ITV has ordered a UK remake of Belgian crime drama Professor T.

The six-part series is based on the hit series that was introduced to UK audiences by streaming service Walter Presents. It is produced by Eagle Eye Drama, which was formed by Walter Iuzzolino, Jo McGrath and Jason Thorp, the same three founders and creative team behind the global drama platform. The company focuses on producing English language series inspired by hit foreign language shows it has
championed from around the world. Professor T is the company’s first original drama commission.

Ben Miller (Johnny English, Death in Paradise) will star as the genius OCD criminologist, Professor Jasper Tempest, alongside Tony award-winning actress Frances de la Tour (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The History Boys) as his colourful but overbearing mother, Adelaide. Emerging star Emma Naomi who is currently appearing on the London stage in Blithe Spirit, takes up the role of Detective Inspector Lisa Donckers with rising star Barney White cast as her police sidekick Dan Winters.

The series is set against the stunning backdrop of Cambridge University. It will be directed by leading Belgian director, Indra Siera, and will be filmed in Belgium and Cambridge during the summer of 2020.

ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill has commissioned the series for the channel.
