Sharp Objects’ Sophia Lillis stars in Netflix’s I Am Not Okay with This
14th June 2019
Sharp Objects’ Sophia Lillis will star in Netflix’s new coming-of-age series, I Am Not Okay with This.
Based on Charles Forsman’s graphic novel, I Am Not Okay with This follows a teenage girl navigating the trials and tribulations of high school, all the while dealing with the complexities of her family, her budding sexuality, and… mysterious superpowers just beginning to awaken from deep within her.
The premise is ripe for the kind of darkly funny coming-of-age storytelling that made The End of the F***ing World a huge hit when it premiered both on Channel 4 in the UK and Netflix worldwide. Indeed, that series’ helmer, Jonathan Entwistle, is directing, with the producers of Stranger Things also on board. Entwistle is co-writing alongside Christy Hall, and now, Netflix is lining up talent behind the camera.
Lillis will lead the show as Sydney, an awkward, smart, dryly funny teen. She will be joined by Wyatt Oleff as Stanley Barber, Sydney’s neighbour, Sofia Bryant as Dina, Sydney’s loud best friend, Kathleen Rose Perkins as Maggie, Sydney’s mother, Aidan Wojtak-Hissong as Sydney’s brother, and Richard Ellis as Dina’s boyfriend.
