Hacks has officially found a UK TV home on Amazon Prime Video, with a release date set for this April.
The HBO Max comedy from creators Paul W Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky, explores a dark mentorship that forms between Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), a legendary Las Vegas comedian, and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old (Hannah Einbinder).
Deborah Vance has blazed a trail through the male-dominated comedy scene for decades, hustling her way into a prime Las Vegas residency while simultaneously cultivating a successful brand of luxury items and endorsements. But after the casino owner threatens to pull back on her nights in favour of younger acts, Deborah’s manager Jimmy pitches another one of his clients, recently outcast television writer Ava, to help freshen up her set.
The series premiered on HBO Max in May 2021, and went on to win Emmy awards for Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Directing, plus Outstanding Lead Actress for Jean Smart. In June last year, the show was renewed for a second season, but still with no word of where the show might end up on this side of the pond. Now, we’ve got an answer, with Amazon Prime Video stepping up to be the exclusively streaming home of the series in the UK and Ireland.
The series co-stars Carl Clemons-Hopkins (Hamilton) as Marcus, Deborah’s trusted longtime COO, with recurring guest stars including Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Paul W. Downs, Mark Indelicato, Poppy Liu, Johnny Sibilly, Meg Stalter and Rose Abdoo.
Season 1 will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 1st April, with all episodes arriving at once. Here’s a video from HBO Max to give you a taste of its darkly funny comedy:
Hacks is available to watch online on Amazon Prime Video as part of a Prime membership or a £5.99 monthly subscription.
