Marvel has released a bunch of new images for Daredevil Season 2, including a close-up look at Jon Bernthal as The Punisher and Elodie Yung as Elektra.
The Netflix original series returns after the hugely successful first season, released in April 2015, which follows blind lawyer Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), who was imbued with extraordinary senses as a young boy and fights injustice by night as a vigilante in Hell’s Kitchen, New York.
But Murdock is not the only hero on the block. The two most exciting additions to the cast in Season 2 are Bernthal as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, another vigilante with his own, violent methods of confronting injustice, and Yung’s Elektra, a mysterious figure from Daredevil’s past. Returning cast members include Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple) and Scott Glenn (Stick).
The second season debuts hot on the heels of the release of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, which expanded the Hell’s Kitchen world and kept the bar high for Netflix and Marvel’s growing slate – their run will continue with the upcoming Luke Cage and future release of Iron Fist series, all leading up to the crossover show, Marvel’s The Defenders.
The show is Executive Produced by series Co-Showrunners Marco Ramirez (Sons Of Anarchy) and Douglas Petrie (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer), along with Jeph Loeb, who also serves as Marvel’s Head of Television.
The release date of Daredevil Season 2 has not yet been officially confirmed, but is currently expected to be Friday 25th March, placing the series in direct competition with Marvel’s rival, DC, which releases Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on the same weekend.
