First look: Tom Hanks’ Finch set for November release
David Farnor | On 13, Aug 2021
Tom Hanks’ Finch will be released by Apple TV+ this November, and a new image gives us a first look at the sci-fi drama.
The Amblin Entertainment project, originally title Bios, was previously set to be released by Universal, but earlier this year it was acquired by Apple TV+. Directed by Game of Thrones helmer Miguel Sapochnik, the film is written by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell and follows the unlikely family of a man, a robot and a dog. Hanks plays Finch, the eponymous engineer who is one of the few survivors of a cataclysmic solar event that has turned the world into a wasteland. Living in an underground bunker for a decade with his dog, Goodyear, he builds a robot (Caleb Landry Jones) to look after Goodyear when he no longer can. As the trio go on a dangerous journey across America, Finch tries to show his creation the joy and wonder of what it means to be alive. Their road trip is paved with both challenges and humour, as it’s as difficult for Finch to goad Jeff and Goodyear to get along as it is for him to manage the dangers of the new world.
Apple TV+ will release the film on Friday 5th November. It joins a growing line-up of Apple Original films, including CODA, Emancipation starring Will Smith, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, the Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris’-starring Swan Song, and Joel Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand.
Finch: Apple TV+ acquires Tom Hanks sci-fi

Apple TV+ has acquired the rights to Tom Hanks sci-fi film Finch.
The Amblin Entertainment project, originally title Bios, was set to be released by Universal. Now, Apple has seen off competition in a heated auction to be the streaming home for the film, which is expected to be a potential awards contender.
The producers include Kevin Misher, Jack Rapke, Jacqueline Levine and Powell, with Luck and Sapochnik exec-producing alongside Robert Zemeckis, Andy Berman and Adam Merims.
The film is the second major Tom Hanks project to head to Apple TV+’s film arm, after it snapped up WWII thriller Greyhound from Sony last year. The movie became Apple TV+’s most watched film. The deal bolsters Apple’s growing line-up of high-profile feature films, with a slate that includes Sundance hit CODA, Emancipation starring Will Smith and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
