Filming wraps on Marvel’s Echo

Filming has wrapped on Echo, with Kingpin officially set to return alongside Maya Lopez.
A spin-off from Hawkeye, which debuted last Christmas, the series sees Alaqua Cox return to the role of Maya, the unforgiving deaf leader of the Tracksuit Mafia. In Hawkeye, she was determined to make Ronin, aka Clint Barton, pay for his vengeful deeds. Now, Marvel is unveiling more about her origins story in her own solo outing.
The series will see Lopez’s ruthless behaviour in New York City catch up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community. Echo also stars Chaske Spencer (Wild Indian, The English), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon, Stumptown), Devery Jacobs (FX’s Reservation Dogs, American Gods) and Cody Lightning (Hey, Viktor!, Four Sheets to the Wind), with Graham Greene (1883, Goliath) and Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds, FX’s Reservation Dogs).
Episodes of the series are directed by Sydney Freeland (Navajo) and Catriona McKenzie (Gunaikurnai), with the executive producers including Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Stephen Broussard, Richie Palmer, Marion Dayre and Jason Gavin (Blackfeet). Amy Rardin and Marion Dayre serve as the head writers, taking over from Etan and Emily Cohen.
Cox and other cast members appeared at Disney’s D23 Expo this weekend, announcing that the show had wrapped filming and revealing in an exclusive teaser trailer that Vincent D’Onofrio would reprise his role as Kingpin.
Cox said: “I’m so lucky to have amazing costars that were able to help me along the way of this giant journey… This is such an amazing feeling.”
D’Onofrio added: “It’s a great cast, I was so impressed by these people. They’re amazing talents, all of them. To bring Fisk and Maya back together is such a thrill.”
There is no official word yet on whether Charlie Cox will make an appearance in the series as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, ahead of his solo series Daredevil: Born Again, which will also feature D’Onofrio’s villain.
The show will debut on Disney+ in summer 2023.

Disney+ confirms Marvel’s Echo
12th November 2021
Disney+ has confirmed that Marvel series Echo is officially on the way.
The series, which we reported on earlier this year, is a spin-off from Hawkeye, which will drop on Disney+ this month. That will see Jeremy Renner reprise his role from the MCU as sharp-shooter Clint alongside Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, who ended up in the comics taking up the Hawkeye mantle as one of the Young Avengers, Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Kate’s mother, and Florence Pugh as assassin Yelena Belova.
Also among the cast, though, is Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, aka Echo. A deaf Native American superhero, she has the power of perfectly mimicking other people’s movements and therefore their fighting styles. A character who has traditionally crossed paths with Daredevil, Moon Knight and the Avengers, she will now get her own solo series.
Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen were attached to write and executive produce the project when it was in development. While that hasn’t been confirmed yet, Disney+ has now officially announced that the series has been greenlit, with Alaqua Cox officially starring as Maya.

A Hawkeye spin-off series is in the works at Disney+ featuring superhero Echo.
Hawkeye is one of the many Marvel TV shows on the way to Disney’s subscription streaming service, with Jeremy Renner reprising his role from the MCU as sharp-shooter Clint. The series co-stars Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, who ended up in the comics taking up the Hawkeye mantle as one of the Young Avengers, Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Kate’s mother, and Florence Pugh as assassin Yelena Belova.
Also among the cast, though, is Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, aka Echo. A deaf Native American superhero, she has the power of perfectly mimicking other people’s movements and therefore their fighting styles. A character who has traditionally crossed paths with Daredevil, Moon Knight and the Avengers, she is now looking to have her own solo series, with Deadline confirming that a spin-off is in early development, with Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen attached to write and executive produce.
It joins a number of other Marvel spin-offs in the works at Disney+, including a Wakanda series from Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, Armor Wars, starring Don Cheadle as War Machine, and Secret Invasion, starring Samuel L Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn as Nick Fury and Talos.
