Christian Milian, Jay Pharoah will star in a new romantic comedy for Netflix, produced by Alicia Keys.
Yes, the multiple Grammy-winning artist will produce a new film for the streaming giant, her second for the company after the recently released Work It. Keys will produce via her AK Worldwide label, alongside The Malina Yarn Company’s Maggie Malina and Story Ink’s Jeremy Kipp Walker.
The film will be written by Dana Schmalenberg and Rheeqrheeq Chainey and follow Erica, an aspiring pop star who is hired to be the entertainment at the wedding of her ex-fiancé. Trying to keep their past relationship a secret, while dealing the aftermath of a music career meltdown, she finds herself falling for her ex once more, despite the efforts of her ex’s brother, Caleb, to stop this happening.
The project marks multiple reunions for Netflix, with Christian Milian set to star, having appeared in Netflix’s series Soundtrack and rom-com Falling Inn Love. She’s joined by Jay Pharoah and Sinqua Walls, the latter of whom appeared in Netflix’s Otherhood.
It will be directed by Steven Tsuchida, who has previously helmed episodes of Netflix’s Dear White People and On My Block. Filming will take place in Mauritius.
