Amazon inks first-look deal with Lizzo

Amazon has inked a first-look deal with Lizzo.
The singerm songwriter and multi-talented musician, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, has enjoyed several sit singles, including Good as Hell and Juice, but has increasingly moved into film too. She served as a voice actor in 2019’s animated film UglyDolls and also appeared in the film Hustlers. Now, she’s stepping into TV with a new deal that will see her develop series for Amazon Prime Video.
The news was announced as part of Amazon’s virtual press tour this week, with Albert Cheng and Vernon Sanders, Co-Heads of Television at Amazon Studios, calling her a “force of positivity”.
“Lizzo is one of the most exciting, creative, joyful artists in the industry, and it is such a pleasure to announce this new deal with her,” commented Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “She has such a unique perspective and we’re so excited to hear her ideas for new content that our Prime Video customers are sure to love.”
