Anthony Daniels teases photo of new Star Wars project

Anthony Daniels has teased that he will return to the Star Wars universe for a new project.
Daniels, who has played the droid C-3P0 ever since 1977’s Star Wars, has been in every live-action film over the ensuing decades. He’s also voiced “Threepio” in a number of other titles, such as Star Wars Revels, and video games and documentaries too.
Now, he’s readying to don the gold-played armour once more as the protocol droid. Daniels revealed his return to the role on Instagram, with a behind-the-scenes photo showing him in a motion-capture costume – a change to the old-fashioned approach to his costume. “Finally, a new suit – that fits!” he quipped as he posted the photo online, tagging Ealing Studios, where is apparently filming.
This, naturally, begs the question of what Daniels is involved in – and, as Disney continues to expand the Stars Wars universe with a number of Disney+ series in the works, there’s no shortage of possible projects it could be. It could be the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, the Mandalorian spin-off Ahoska or even Season 3 of The Mandalorian itself. But perhaps most likely is the Disney+ special in the works called Star Wars: A Droid Story, which will reportedly feature both R2-D2 and C-3PO as they introduce “a new hero”. With both Lucasfilm Animation and Industrial Light & Magic teaming up on the series, the motion-capture technology seems like a natural fit for Lucasfilm’s plans to explore new opportunities at the intersection of animation and visual effects.
