Hallelujah! AMC has renewed Preacher for a third season.
Based on the popular cult comic book franchise of the same name, the serise is an absurdly twisted and action-packed thrill ride that stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, a small-town preacher who is inhabited by an angel-demon spawn that gives him the power to command people to do his bidding with a single word. When Jesse discovers God is absent from Heaven, he sets out to find Him with Tulip (Ruth Negga), Jesse’s volatile true love, and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), a 119-year-old Irish vampire who is Jesse’s best mate. The series also stars Graham McTavish as the Saint of Killers, Pip Torrens as Herr Starr and Ian Colletti as Eugene “Arseface” Root.
Executive producer and director Seth Rogen announced the good news Thursday via social media, only a short while after the Season 2 finale.
“Preacher’s sophomore run ends as a resounding triumph of television,” we wrote in our review. “Crafted with the oddest ingredients available, and produced with technical precision, Preacher may be becoming well-known for its weirder qualities (and there are plenty to choose from), but with a gold-standard cast, a misfit crew of respective geniuses, and the ability to span genres within seconds, it is undoubtedly one of the best shows currently gracing our screens. Amen.”
Executive producer and showrunner Sam Catlin offers some teases following Season 2’s conclusion: “If Season 2 asked, ‘Can this group of friends stick together and be on this quest?’ then the answer is, ‘No. They can’t,’ What’s going to happen now that all that rage and bitterness is out in the open? The band’s breaking up in a really dangerous way.”
Preacher Season 3 will air in 2018, with episodes available in the UK exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. Season 1 and 2 are also available.
