Amazon’s new documentary series, This Is Me, has been released on Amazon Prime in the UK.
The series follows on from Amazon’s Transparent, which has enjoyed huge critical success – bagging two Golden Globes in the process – and also helped to shed light on the issues facing transgender people, which are often overlooked in the mainstream media.
Executive Produced by Transparent’s creator, Jill Soloway, the online documentary show explores issues in more depth through a string of short episodes tackling different subjects, from gender-neutral language to public restrooms. Individuals such as Looking’s D’Lo and Lily Rubenstein appear on the programme, which spans five short episodes.
The show is directed by Rhys Ernst, who served as second unit director, trans consultant and associate producer on Amazon’s web series. At the end of last month, the show was commissioned for a third season, with Season 2 on the way later this year.
The release of This Is Me marks the commission and production of Amazon Studios’ second documentary series, following an order for a full season of The New Yorker Presents, based on its successful pilot earlier this year. It is also the first project to be produced under a new deal with Soloway, who will exclusively develop TV projects for Amazon Prime.
“In response to content featuring trans characters, we’re evolving to the next level,” Soloway said in a statement. “This Is Me instigates a new era: stories produced by the trans community about the trans community.”
All episodes of This Is Me are available to watch now on Amazon Prime Instant Video. A subscription costs £5.99 a month.
