Now, wanted by both the CIA and an international rogue faction that he has uncovered, Jack is forced underground, crisscrossing Europe, trying to stay alive, while preventing a massive global conflict.
In addition to Krasinski, also returning for the third season are Wendell Pierce as James Greer and Michael Kelly as Mike November – and joining the cast are new series regulars Nina Hoss as Alena Kovac and Betty Gabriel as Elizabeth Wright, a part previously set to be played by Marianne Jean-Baptiste. Marianne Jean-Baptiste joins Jack Ryan Season 3
29th November 2020
Marianne Jean-Baptiste has joined the cast of Amazon’s Jack Ryan for Season 3.
The spy thriller, based on Tom Clancy’s novels, has been a huge hit for the online giant, with John Krasinski playing the CIA analyst who was thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time in Season 1. Season 2 was ordered before the first had even been released, and the same early green light was given to Season 3.
While the show has seen some shuffling around of showrunners in recent years, with Vaun Wilmott (Star Trek: Discovery) now leading the writing team, it has also seen an impressive roster of acting talent, from series regulars to guest stars, including Wendell Pierce (The Wire) as James Greer and Abbie Cornish (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) as Cathy Mueller, Michael Kelly as a seasoned CIA officer and Noomi Rapace as a German intelligence agent. Now, Deadline reports the latest star name has come aboard, with the Oscar-nominated Marianne Jean-Baptiste joining the ensemble as a series regular.
She will play Elizabeth Wright, the Chief of Station. The In Fabric star is no stranger to streaming, having recently appeared in Amazon’s Homecoming and Netflix’s Soundtrack.
Season 3 of Jack Ryan is expected to begin production in 2021.
Jack Ryan moves to fourth showrunner
23rd January 2020
Amazon’s Jack Ryan has had another change-up in its creative team, moving on to its fourth showrunner ahead of Season 3.
Lost veteran Carlton Cuse was showrunner for the first two seasons, having spearheaded the franchise’s revival. During Season 2, though, he stepped back from day-to-day involvement, with David Scarpa taking the reins briefly before departing. Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring stepped in as executive producer and showrunner for Season 3, but now, Deadline reports that he has stepped down too, within three months of joining the project. His replacement will be his No 2, Vaun Wilmott (Star Trek: Discovery).
The one creative constant through these changes has been Krasinski, who, as an exec producer, has had a say on key creative and staffing decisions. Rather than any creative differences with him, though, Deadline reports that Scheuring simply found that being an in-the-trenches showrunner wasn’t a natural fit and that he felt more comfortable being a writer.
Wilmott is now working with Krasinski on scripts for the third season.
Jack Ryan recruits new showrunner for Season 3
29th October 2019
Amazon’s Jack Ryan has recruited a new showrunner for its third season.
The spy thriller, based on Tom Clancy’s novels, stars John Krasinski as the up-and-coming CIA analyst who is thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time. Season 1 followed the titular character as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the centre of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale.
Before that had even premiered last summer, though, Amazon had already ordered a second season. Amazon Studios doubled down again earlier this year by renewing the show for a third run before Season 2 even had a release date. Now, with Season 2 a few days away, the show has switched showrunner for a second time.
Lost veteran Carlton Cuse was showrunner for the first two seasons, having spearheaded the franchise’s revival. During Season 2, though, he stepped back from day-to-day involvement, with David Scarpa taking the reins briefly before departing. Now, Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring has joined the series as executive producer and showrunner for Season 3. Scheuring is fresh from his own successful revival of Prison Break. He is also no stranger to Cuse, having developed Atlas with him, a new futuristic sci-fi Western for Amazon.
Jack Ryan renewed for Season 3
14th February 2019
Amazon has renewed Jack Ryan for Season 3.
The one-hour, eight-episode dramatic series also starred Wendell Pierce (The Wire) as James Greer and Abbie Cornish (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) as Cathy Mueller.
Before their maiden run had even premiered last summer, though, Amazon had already ordered a second season, with Michael Kelly and Noomi Rapace joining the show, as a seasoned CIA officer and a highly capable German intelligence agent respectively. Amazon has also tapped DGA Award-winning director Dennie Gordon to helm and exec-produce three of the next eight episodes.
Now, Amazon Studios is demonstrating its confidence in its franchise once again by renewing the show for a third run before Season 2 even has a release date. At this week’s TCA press tour panel, Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke revealed that she “saw no reason not to do” more episodes, based on the success of Season 1 and the work on Season 2.
“Tense and story-driven, Amazon’s smart Tom Clancy adaptation serves up a suspenseful first season,” we wrote in our review of the first season.
Jack Ryan: Season 1 is available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video as part of a Prime membership or a £5.99 monthly subscription.
Michael Kelly joins Jack Ryan for Season 2
2nd August 2018
Michael Kelly has joined the cast of Jack Ryan for Season 2.
A co-production with Paramount Television and Skydance Television, the Amazon original series is a modern update of Tom Clancy’s hero, with John Krasinski playing the up-and-coming CIA analyst who is thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time. Season 1 follows the titular character as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the centre of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale. The one-hour, eight-episode dramatic series also stars Wendell Pierce (The Wire) as James Greer and Abbie Cornish (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) as Cathy Mueller.
Before that has even arrived, though, Amazon has already ordered a second season, which sees Jack Ryan confront the forces in power in a dangerous, declining democratic regime in South America. Amazon has swiftly begun assembling impressive new names to join the cast. The latest is House of Cards veteran Michael Kelly, who will be a series regular for Season 2.
Kelly will play Mike November, a smart, seasoned career field officer in the CIA who works with both Jack Ryan and Jim Greer.
He joins Noomi Rapace as Harriet “Harry” Baumann, a highly capable, sharply intelligent and intoxicatingly charming BND agent (Germany’s Secret Intelligence) who crosses paths with Jack Ryan in South America, and John Hoogenakker as Matice, a tough and salty American who works black ops for the CIA. At first sceptical of what appears to be a desk-jockey, he quickly develops a new respect for Jack Ryan after seeing him handle himself in the field.
Season 2 of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan will premiere globally on Amazon Prime Video on Fridat 31st August 2018.
Noomi Rapace joins Amazon’s Jack Ryan
21st July 2018
Noomi Rapace has joined the cast of Amazon’s Jack Ryan series.
The show, which is based on the novels by Tom Clancy, premieres on Amazon Prime Video in August, bringing the eponymous hero into the modern age.
The series is a reinvention that frames Ryan as an up-and-coming CIA analyst thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time. It follows the titular character as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the centre of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale.
With only weeks to go until the eight-episode thriller arrives, Amazon was out in full force at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend to tease more. With a trailer already released, though, Amazon debuted Episode 1 to Con attendees. The biggest Jack Ryan news of the weekend, meanwhile, was the addition of Noomi Rapace to the programme.
She will play Harriet “Harry” Baumann, a highly capable, sharply intelligent and intoxicatingly charming BND agent (Germany’s Secret Intelligence) who crosses paths with Jack Ryan in South America. She will join the show for Season 2, which has already been ordered by Amazon Studios.
She joins John Krasinski (A Quiet Place, 13 Hours) as Jack Ryan, as well as Wendell Pierce (The Wire) as James Greer and Abbie Cornish (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) as Cathy Mueller.
The series is executive produced by Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Graham Roland (Fringe, Prison Break), who created the project for television and serve as showrunners, Krasinski, Academy Award-nominated director Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game), who also directed the pilot, and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes.
Season 1 of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan premieres on Friday 31st August on Prime Video. To see the trailer for the series, click here.
Amazon renews Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan for Season 2
25th April 2018
Amazon has already renewed its new Jack Ryan series for a second season, months before the first season has even premiered.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, from Paramount Television and Skydance Television, is a reinvention of the famed and lauded Clancy hero. After the character from Clancy’s books has been portrayed on screen by Alec Baldwin, Chris Pine and Ben Affleck, this new, modern incarnation will be played by John Krasinski (A Quiet Place, 13 Hours).
The series debuts this August, with Amazon already heavily promoting the show as its big new original for 2018, as it hopes to find a breakout mainstream hit to rival the popularity of Stranger Things and Game of Thrones. After Amazon’s Super Bowl ads earlier this year, the online giant saw a more than 400% increase in Prime members placing Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on their watchlist.
“With so much early anticipation for Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan from our customers and personally having the pleasure to preview the exhilarating, action-packed first season, we are excited to greenlight a second season of the series months ahead of its debut,” says Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “The new season will take our unexpected hero to a new, exciting and dangerous world.”
The show is produced by Paramount Television, Carlton Cuse’s Genre Arts, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and David Ellison’s Skydance Television. Executive producing along with Cuse, Roland and Krasinski are Platinum Dune’s Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.
The creators of the series, Executive Producers Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Graham Roland (Fringe, Prison Break), will continue to serve as Co-Showrunners for Season 2. Additionally, Krasinski, who also serves as an Executive Producer, will be reunited with Wendell Pierce (The Wire) who will reprise his role as James Greer in the eight-episode second season.
Additionally, Lindsey Springer, Mace Neufeld, Vince Calandra, Andrew Bernstein and Skydance’s Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross will also executive produce the second season with Allyson Seeger serving as a co-executive producer.
“We’re thrilled that the first season has generated so much enthusiasm,” comments Cuse. “We couldn’t be happier to be working with Amazon and to be filming very near the Amazon to tell the next great Jack Ryan adventure.”
“From day one we only had one actor on our casting board for this series – John Krasinski,” adds Amy Powell, President of Paramount Television. “We are so excited that he is our Jack Ryan and we get to make another season with this incredibly talented team. We have been blown away by what our whole team has delivered for season one and we can’t wait for everyone to see it this summer.”
Season 2 will see Jack Ryan confront the forces in power in a dangerous, declining democratic regime in South America. The second season commences production this summer in Europe, South America and the United States.
Season 1 will premiere globally on Amazon Prime Video on 31st August. Watch the trailer here.
