Carnival Row trailer teases star-crossed romance
James R | On 09, Aug 2019
Carnival Row comes to Amazon Prime Video later this month and the new trailer isn’t afraid to lay on the cheese, as the fantasy epic prepares to chart a story of star-crossed lovers.
They are human detective Rycroft Philostrate (Orlando Bloom) and refugee faerie Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne), who once set each other’s eyebrows and wings all aquiver. After years apart, they rekindle a dangerous affair despite an increasingly intolerant society. Vignette harbors a secret that endangers Philo’s world during his most important case yet: a string of gruesome murders threatening the uneasy peace of the Row.
Even in darkness, hope lives, promises the trailer, which drops camp pop songs and earnest glimpses of intimate affairs into a two-minute montage of every fantasy trope a fan could wish for. The series premieres on 30th August. Here’s the new video:
Carnival Row: Season 1 is available on Amazon Prime Video as part of a Prime membership or a £5.99 monthly subscription.

Amazon’s Carnival Row adds Andrew Gower and Jamie Harris
17th December 2017
Amazon’s Carnival Row has added two new residents to its fantastical home: Andrew Gower and Jamie Harris.
The noir-tinged serie is set in the neo-Victorian city of Burgue, where mythical creatures fleeing their war-torn homeland have gathered in the city – and tensions are simmering between citizens and the growing immigrant population. The series follows the investigation of a string of unsolved murders which are eating away at whatever uneasy peace still exists.
Orlando Bloom is already set to star a Rycroft Philostrate, a police inspector investigating the murder of a faerie showgirl, with Cara Delevingne co-starring as Vignette Stonemoss, a faerish refugee who flees her war-torn homeland to come to the city.
Now, Outlander veteran Andrew Gower has signed on to star alongside them. Gower, who will next be seen in Netflix’s Black Mirror episode, Crocodile, stole scenes throughout Outlander’s Season 2 as the petty, self-centered Prince Charles Stuart. In Carnival Row, he’ll play Ezra Spurnrose, the scion of one of the Burque’s most prominent families. When a deal goes wrong, he finds himself under financial pressure and agrees to enter into a deal with a wealthy Puck. When he suspects that his sister, Imogen, though is falling for the Puck, he strives to protect his family reputation.
Harris, whom fans will recognise from Shameless, TURN, Kingdom and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, will play Desk Sergeant Dombey, a copper who believes in the old rule of life and resents the growing number of immigrants in the city.
The series is expected to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2018.
