Neighbours is officially moving back into our lives this September, as Amazon Freevee revives the Aussie soap opera – and a new trailer gives us a first look at the all-new episodes.
The continuation of the long-running soap series – about the lives, loves, and challenges of the residents on Ramsay Street in Erinsborough, Australia, a fictional suburb of Melbourne – follows the finale in 2022, which was watched by millions of adoring fans.
The new series will star Alan Fletcher, Annie Jones, Candice Leask, Emerald Chan, Georgie Stone, Jackie Woodburne, Lloyd Will, Lucinda Armstrong Hall, Lucinda Cowden, Marley Williams, Naomi Rukavina, Rebekah Elmaloglou, Riley Bryant, Ryan Moloney, Sara West, Shiv Palekar, Stefan Dennis, Tim Kano, and Xavier Molyneux as series regulars. April Rose Pengilly, Guy Pearce, Ian Smith, Jodi Gordon, Melissa Bell and Mischa Barton will feature as guest stars.
Jason Herbison, Neighbours’ Executive Producer, said: “All the cast and crew are incredibly excited that Ramsay Street will officially welcome viewers again to the neighbourhood in the UK and Australia, and also be introduced to brand new audiences in the US and Canada when the new chapter of Neighbours is unveiled.”
The new chapter will premiere exclusively on Monday 18th September, on Amazon Freevee, with new episodes released daily, Monday to Thursday. Previous seasons of Neighbours, as well as many iconic episodes, are currently available to stream on Amazon Freevee. Additionally, the free streaming service will feature two series-themed FAST Channels on the service: Neighbours – Looking Back and Best of Neighbours.
Mischa Barton joins Amazon Freevee’s Neighbours
7th May 2023
Mischa Barton has joined the cast of Amazon Freevee’s revival of Neighbours.
The long-running daily drama follows the lives, loves, and challenges of the residents on Ramsay Street in Erinsborough, Australia, a fictional suburb of Melbourne. Launching in 1985, Neighbours ran for more than three decades and nearly 9,000 episodes, garnering fans across the globe and launching the careers of many household names. In the UK, it’s had multiple homes, airing initially on BBC One and, most recently, Channel 5. The final episode aired in July 2022 and featured guest star appearances from Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, Jason Donovan, and Margot Robbie, all of whom were series cast members earlier in their careers.
Last year, Amazon Freevee announced that was reviving the series for a new run, with Stefan Dennis, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney and Jackie Woodburne all returning to reprise their roles.
Joining them will be a new character played by The OC and Invitation to a Murder star. Barton’s character will be called Reece and is an American new to Erinsborough who’s not quite who she appears to be.
Jason Herbison, Neighbours’ executive producer, said: “With Neighbours launching on Amazon Freevee in North America, we are beyond excited to have an actor of Mischa’s caliber join us for the beginning of this exciting new chapter. Mischa’s character is dynamic and unpredictable, and will have an instant presence on Ramsay Street. Our loyal viewers are going to love her, locally and abroad.”
Barton shared her enthusiasm as well, and said: “I’m excited to be part of this iconic show’s next chapter, and I am really looking forward to being back in Australia — a place I know and love! I think the character of Reece is going to be a great role for me to explore and play with.”
The new chapter of Neighbours officially started production today in April in Melbourne and will launch on Amazon Freevee in the autumn.
Amazon Freevee brings back Neighbours
17th November 2022
Neighbours is officially coming back to our screens once again, with Amazon Freevee reviving the iconic soap for a new season.
Now, though, after millions of nostalgic fans tuned in to watch the episode, Amazon and Fremantle are teaming up to revive the series once more. Stefan Dennis, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney, and Jackie Woodburne will all return to reprise their leading roles.
The new series will premiere exclusively for free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US, as part of a deal that will also include streaming rights to thousands of episodes from the previous seasons, available prior to the new series’ premiere. Australia’s Network 10, the home of Neighbours for 36 years, will retain first-run rights in Australia for the new series, with the series then streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Jason Herbison, Neighbours’ executive producer since 2013, will maintain his position on this new chapter of Neighbours, with Andrew Thompson returning as producer. Production is set to commence in early 2023 with a world premiere slated for the second half of the year.
“Neighbours has captivated its audience for nearly 40 years, building a dedicated and loyal following for the lives and stories of the characters on Ramsay Street,” said Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD original content and programming, Amazon Studios. “With the power of streaming, we’re able to offer a catalogue of thousands of Neighbours episodes for new audiences to discover this legendary series and current fans to relive their favourite moments. We look forward to immersing the audience in new Ramsay Street experiences when we relaunch the show next year for Amazon Freevee and Prime Video customers.”
“Neighbours is a unique series with a powerful connection with its fans across the world. We cherish the show and all those who have been part of its incredible story over many decades, so we are thrilled that we have found a new home with Amazon Freevee. Thanks to the innovative Amazon Freevee platform, many classic episodes will be available to fans, and Neighbours will go back into full production in Australia early next year, providing our fans with new episodes,” said Jennifer Mullin, global CEO, Fremantle. “This partnership with Amazon Freevee marks an exciting new chapter, and we look forward to collaborating with them, along with our long-term and valued partner in Australia, Network 10.”
