James R | On 25, Jan 2018
Sneaky Pete will return for Season this March, Amazon Prime Video has revealed.
The drama, a co-production with Sony Pictures Television Studios, revolves around a con man, Marius (Giovanni Ribisi, Avatar) who left prison only to find himself hunted by the vicious gangster he once robbed. With nowhere else to turn, he took cover from his past by assuming the identity of his cellmate Pete and “reuniting” with Pete’s estranged family.
The series is created by Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and David Shore (The Good Doctor), with Cranston, Graham Yost (The Americans), James Degus (All The Way), Michael Dinner and Fred Golan (Justified) serving as executive producers. The series also stars Marin Ireland (Side Effects) as Julia Bowman, three-time Emmy winner Margo Martindale (The Americans) as Audrey Bernhardt, Shane McRae (Still Alice) as Taylor Bowman, Libe Barer (Parenthood) as Carly Bowman and Peter Gerety (Prime Suspect) as Otto Bernhardt.
The first season became the second most-watched Amazon original scripted series on its opening day, with a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. Now, Amazon has ordered 10 more episodes.
“After the tremendous critical and customer reception in its first series, we’re excited to debut another series of Sneaky Pete,” says Sharon Tal Yguado, Head of Scripted Series, Amazon Studios. “Graham and his team have crafted a second series that really raises the stakes for Marius and everyone involved.”
The second run picks up as Marius is on the verge of starting fresh, when two thugs, believing he is Pete, threaten to kill the family unless he takes them to Pete’s estranged mother, Maggie (Jane Adams, Twin Peaks), and the millions she stole from their mysterious employer. Now, he must tread a dangerous line to find the elusive Maggie, protect the family, and keep up the Pete con, all while finagling a way to ditch the thugs and keep the money for himself.
Season 2 will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on Friday 9th March. Here’s the trailer:
John Ales joins Sneaky Pete Season 2
12th October 2017
John Ales has joined the cast of Sneaky Pete.
Amazon’s original series, which is co-created and executive produced Bryan Cranston, with Graham Yost (The Americans) as showrunner, was the second most-streamed original scripted series on an opening day, behind only The Man in the High Castle. Starring Giovanni Ribisi, the show follows a con man, Marius, who gets out of prison only to find himself hunted by the vicious gangster he once robbed. With nowhere else to turn, he takes cover from his past by assuming the identity of his cellmate, Pete, and then “reunites” with Pete’s estranged family, who don’t realise he’s not their long-lost loved one. But they have secrets and lies of their own that threaten to drag Marius into a world every bit as dangerous as the one he’s trying to escape.
The show started off generically, but rose to an impressive, gripping climax, as the supporting cast – including Marin Ireland (Side Effects), Peter Gerety (Prime Suspect), Libe Barer (Parenthood), Shane McRae (Still Alice), Michael Drayer (Mr. Robot), and Margo Martindale (The Americans) – began to play more and more of a part in the unfolding plot.
Now, that cast is getting bigger, with Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll veteran John Ales signing on for a recurring role.
Deadline reports that he plays Luka Delchev, a man rumoured to have stolen millions from a UN peacekeeping force. Emigrating from Montenegro in the 1990s, he’s a funny guy – and is exceptionally brutal, with a fondness for sulphuric acid.
Orange Is the New Black’s Miriam Morales joins Sneaky Pete Season 2
Orange Is the New Black’s Miriam Morales is breaking out of Litchfield and teaming up with Sneaky Pete.
Morales, who plays Pidge on Jenkins Kohan’s series is escaping to work on the drama from Netflix’s rival. She’ll have a recurring role on the show, which follows a con man, Marius (Giovanni Ribisi), who gets out of prison, only to find himself hunted by the vicious gangster he once robbed.
Morales will play Ellen’s (Jeté Laurence) teacher at a Bridgeport elementary school. She’s the latest to join the ensemble, according to Deadline, alongside The Knick’s Jennifer Ferrin, who will play NYPD Detective Joyce Roby. Other supporting case members include Marin Ireland, Peter Gerety, Libe Barer, Shane McRae, Michael Drayer and Margo Martindale.
There is no word yet on Sneaky Pete’s Season 2 release date.
Joseph Lyle Taylor to play key role in Sneaky Pete Season 2
13th June 2017
Joseph Lyle Taylor will play a key role in Sneaky Pete Season 2.
Fans of the ever-complicating universe Pete found himself in will be pleased to hear, then, that one of the finale’s key players is set to return for the second season.
Joseph Lyle Taylor (Law & Order: SVU) guest-starred in the closing episode of Season 1 as Frank Hooper, an easy-to-violence thug and a brilliant detective. He and his brother Joe solve mysteries for people who can’t go to the law – and are on the track of Pete and his mother, although they don’t realise who “Pete” really is.
Taylor will be upped from a guest star to a recurring role, so you can expect him to be a formidable opponent for Pete in the show’s sophomore outing.
Amazon renews Sneaky Pete for Season 2
20th January 2017
Amazon has renewed Sneaky Pete for Season 2 – less than a week after Season 1 was released.
The series, which is co-created and executive produced Bryan Cranston, with Graham Yost (The Americans) as showrunner, was the second most-streamed original scripted series on an opening day, behind only The Man in the High Castle.
Starring Giovanni Ribisi, the show follows a con man, Marius, who gets out of prison only to find himself hunted by the vicious gangster he once robbed. The series’ ensemble cast includes Marin Ireland (Side Effects), Peter Gerety (Prime Suspect), Libe Barer (Parenthood), Shane McRae (Still Alice), Michael Drayer (Mr. Robot), and Margo Martindale (The Americans).
“Bryan Cranston and Graham Yost have done a masterful job of steering the cast to fantastic performances,” says Joe Lewis, Head of Comedy and Drama, Amazon Studios. “Both the critical response and our customers’ engagement with the series are key factors in our enthusiasm to bring our audience a second season of Sneaky Pete.”
“It’s a tangled plot that the writers only just mange to stay on top of, but, for the most part, we’re kept on the hook via on-the-money twists, crackling dialogue and some delicious cliffhangers,” we wrote in our review. “Sneaky Pete isn’t going to change the world, but its characters are great company and the story zips along.”
