Allison Williams takes “mystery role” in Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events

Allison Williams has taken on a “mystery role” in Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.
The streaming giant’s adaptation of the Lemony Snicket novels stars Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf, the nefarious distant relative of orphans Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire (Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, Presley Smith), who will stop at nothing – including using his dubious acting skills – to get his hands on the fortune they have inherited.
Created by Lemony Snicket author Daniel Handler, who exec produces the programme with Barry Sonnenfeld, the result has been anything but unfortunate. And a large part of that success has been the excellent cast.
Season 2, which is based on the fifth through to the ninth novels in the 13-part run, has seen the cast expand to star Nathan Fillion, Tony Hale and Lucy Punch, resulting in an ensemble that now includes everyone from Will Arnett and Cobie Smulders to Alfre Woodard, Catherine O’Hara and Patrick Warburton.
Season 3, which is based on the final three novels, is currently filming in Vancouver. The third run is understood to be the last, but the series is still holding back surprises until the end, with Deadline revealing that Williams has now joined the cast in an unknown role. Fresh from a co-starring role in Get Out, she is no stranger to TV: she will soon be seen in Sky’s Patrick Melrose, alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, and has also played a recurring role in HBO’s Girls.
Who will Williams play? The good news is we won’t have to wait long to find out, as she is also confirmed as appearing in Season 2, which premieres on Friday 30th March. You can see a tariler for that here.
Nathan Fillion, Tony Hale and Lucy Punch join Season 2 of A Series of Unfortunate Events

Nathan Fillion, Tony Hale and Lucy Punch are joining Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events for the programme’s second season.
“Louis Hynes and Malina Weissman as the two leads are terrific,” we wrote in our review of Season 1, “falling into a rhythm of slightly stilted, pitch-perfect line readings, as they react to the absurdity of the adults around them. Harris as Count Olaf is a solid choice – he’s not quite as manic as Jim Carrey in the film version, but nevertheless embraces the hammy villain role with gusto.”
Now, that cast is getting bigger, with five impressive names all joining the returning cast of Hynes, Smith, Weissman, Harris and Patrick Warburton.
Firefly’s Nathan Fillion, Tony Hale (Arrested Development’s Buster), Sara Rue (Popular), Britain’s own Lucy Punch (Hot Fuzz, Bad Teacher) and Roger Bart (Trumbo, Episodes) have all signed on for Season 2.
The casting was announced on Friday at a panel event for the show at Netflix’s FYSee space in Los Angeles, with Fillion set to play Jacques Snicket, Hale and Punch cast as Jerome and Esmé Squalor, and Bart taking on the role of Vice Principal Nero.
The show has already been renewed for a third season.
