“I did not mean to frighten you, skinny human…” That’s the sound of Adam Sandler having a close encounter in Netflix’s Spaceman.
Based on Jaroslav Kalfar’s 2018 novel The Spaceman of Bohemia, and directed by Chernobyl helmer Johan Renck, the film follows an astronaut, Jakub (Adam Sandler), who is six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system. When he realises that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth, he is desperate to fix things with his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan) – and is helped by a mysterious creature from the beginning of time he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship.
Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano) works with Jakub to make sense of what went wrong before it is too late. The result promises to be somewhere between Moon and Solaris. Find out exactly what it is when it premieres on Netflix on 1st March.

Adam Sandler is getting back into Uncut Gems mode with his latest film, an adaptation of The Spaceman of Bohemia.
The untitled drama is based on Jaroslav Kalfar’s novel, which was first published in 2018. Set in the near-distant future, it follows a Czech astronaut as he launches into space to investigate a mysterious dust cloud covering Venus, a suicide mission sponsored by a proud nation. Suddenly a world celebrity, Jakub’s marriage starts to fail as the weeks go by, and his sanity comes into question. The book is being adapted for the screen by Colby Day and has Emmy-winning Chernobyl helmer Johan Renck at the helm. Channing Tatum is also on board as a producer, alongside Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan and Michael Parets for Free Association. Ben Ormand, Renck and Barry Bernardi will executive produce.
“As we prepare for our voyage to Chopra, I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the perfect partner in Adam,” Renck said in a statement. “And now, with the support of the brilliant Netflix family, I am profoundly excited to set off on our impossible journey.”
The deal marks yet another Netflix project in the pipeline for Sandler, who has a multi-picture deal with the streamer. While those have involved comedies such as the recently released Hubie Halloween, this new project marks a return to Uncut Gems-like waters, with a more serious role. Sandler is also set to star in Netflix basketball film Hustle.
