Lionsgate+ is doubling down on the spooky entertainment this October, with the arrivial of horror-comedy Shining Vale and horror flick Mama. It’s joined by Godfather of Harlem and the second chapter of The Capture. And, before The Hunger Games franchise is back in cinemas, there’s a chance to revisit the original quartet of films.
Here’s what’s coming to Lionsgate+ UK in October 2023:
Mama – 1st October
From executive producer Guillermo del Toro, creator of “Pan’s Labyrinth,” this supernatural thriller focuses on two girls found five years after disappearing into the woods. Starring Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
The Other Boleyn Girl – 1st October
Two sisters – one is an innocent and the other a schemer – both vie for the attentions of England’s King Henry VIII in this sensational story of palace sex scandals and back-stabbing court intrigue. Starring Natalie Portman, Eric Bana and Scarlett Johansson.
The Hunger Games – 4th October
Before The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes hits cinemas, don’t miss the opportunity to go back to original film adaptations of The Hunger Games books.
Godfather of Harlem: Season 3 – 6th October
Season 3 finds Bumpy Johnson (Forest Whitaker) continuing to battle for control of Harlem with other aspirants to the throne, namely the Cuban Mafia from neighbouring Spanish Harlem. Taking on the Cuban mob will put Bumpy, his loved ones, and his community in the crosshairs of not only the rival Italians, but ruthless Latin assassins and, ultimately, the CIA. “Godfather of Harlem” is a collision of the criminal underworld and the civil rights movement during one of the most tumultuous times in American history. Episodes arrive weekly.
Shining Vale: Season 2 – 13th October
Season two kicks off four months after the first season, when Pat’s insurance runs out and she is released from the psychiatric hospital early. Pat returns home, determined to pick up the pieces of her broken family, but she quickly finds out her children don’t need her, Terry doesn’t remember her and to make matters worse, Pat’s new neighbour Ruth looks exactly like Rosemary. Meanwhile, the house starts to reveal the shocking secrets of its dark past. Every mother feels like they live in an insane asylum, but Pat may be right! Episodes arrive weekly.
The Capture: Season 2 – 20th October
The new season will again question if we can really believe what we see. Britain is under siege: hacked news feeds, manipulated media, and interference in politics. Entrenched in the UK’s own ‘Correction’ unit, DCI Rachel Carey finds herself in the middle of a new conspiracy – with a new target. But how can she solve this case when she can’t even trust her closest colleagues? Escalating from the CCTV thriller of series one, the six-part run features ‘invisible’ assassins, the terrifying rise of deepfake technology, the ever-growing tension between government and Big Tech, and corruption at the heart of the British media. All episode arrive at once.
