David Farnor | On 01, Aug 2023
It’s not Only Murders you can expect this August, as Disney+ lines up a month of blockbuster-sized titles, from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and a new Star Wars series to a 4K restoration of Cinderella.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Disney+ UK in August 2023:
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 – 2nd August
In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of misfits return – but they’re looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), still reeling from a terrible loss, must rally his team and embark on a dicey, action-packed mission to defend the universe and save Rocket. Meanwhile, a new and unpredictable force threatens to bring the Guardians down for good.
The Randall Scandal: Love, Loathing and Vanderpump – 4th August
You’ve heard all about #Scandoval, but the most explosive scandal raging behind the scenes of “Vanderpump Rules” is The Randall Scandal. This documentary from ABC News Studios and LA Times Studios charts the unbelievable tale of B-movie mogul Randall Emmett who rose to fame on the heels of his engagement to Bravo megastar Lala Kent. When their relationship publicly collapses and a bitter custody dispute ensues, Randall is caught up in a swarm of bombshell allegations and lawsuits that rock Hollywood.
Only Murders in the Building: Season 3 – 8th August
Season 3 finds Charles, Oliver & Mabel (played by Steve Martin, Martin Short & Selena Gomez) investigating a murder behind the scenes of a Broadway show. Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd) is a Hollywood action star whose Broadway debut is cut short by his untimely death. Aided by co-star Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep), our trio embarks on their toughest case yet, all while director Oliver desperately attempts to put his show back together. Curtains up! Episodes 1 and 2 arrive together, followed by episodes weekly.
High School Musical: The Musical: Season 4 – 9th August
The final season of Disney’s decidedly meta reworking of its High School Musical franchise will see the Wildcats returning to East High, where they prepare a stage production of “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.” But, in a meta twist signature to the series, plans are disrupted when Disney announces the long-awaited “High School Musical 4: The Reunion” movie will shoot on location at their beloved high school. All episodes arrive at once.
Star Wars: Ahsoka: Season 1 – 23rd August
after the fall of the Empire, “Star Wars: Ahsoka” follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. Ahsoka stars Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ray Stevenson, Ivanna Sakhno, Diana Lee Inosanto, David Tennant, Lars Mikkelsen and Eman Esfandi. Episodes 1 and 2 arrive together, followed by episodes weekly.
Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The CHallenge – 23rd August
Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge, famed survivalist Bear Grylls is taking it up a level. This time, he’s teaching his celebrity guests essential survival skills that they’ll have to master and then prove they can use in a high-stress situation. Challenges and locations span the snowy peaks of the Canadian Rockies, the deserts of the Great Basin, and the volcanic rainforests of Costa Rica. Follow along as celebrities push their bodies and minds to the limit, attempting to successfully complete life-changing adventures that will challenge their perceived limitations.
Cinderella (4K restoration) – 25th August
This all-new restoration of the beloved animation represents the first time that the film will be available to stream in 4K, and it is the culmination of a multi-year effort involving the Walt Disney Studios Restoration and Preservation team, working closely with key players from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The result is a version of the film that is restored to its original grandeur, authentic to the artistic ambitions of the Studio’s creative team, and that looks and sounds better than ever. Part of the Disney100 celebration.
A Murder at the End of the World: Season 1 – 29th August
FX’s A Murder at the End of the World is a mystery series with a new kind of detective at the helm – a Gen Z amateur sleuth and tech-savvy hacker named “Darby Hart” (Emma Corrin). Darby and eight other guests are invited by a reclusive billionaire (Clive Owen) to participate in a retreat at a remote and dazzling location. When one of the other guests is found dead, Darby must use all of her skills to prove it was murder against a tide of competing interests and before the killer takes another life.
