What’s coming soon to Disney+ UK in August 2021?
David Farnor | On 31, Jul 2021
Disney’s Netflix rival is here, serving up Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar originals, along with a post-modern revamp of High School Musical and every episode of The Simpsons.
This month sees the seemingly unlikely and impossible happen, as The Walking Dead Season 11 premieres on Disney+ – or, to be precise, Star, the adult-friendly part of Disney+ kept far from younger viewers. If that feels like a mind-bending surprise, it sets the tone for a month that also includes the premiere of What If, Marvel’s new animated series that uses the multiverse as a chance to retell MCU stories from new perspectives – and features the last performance of Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa.
Here’s what’s coming to Disney+ in August 2021:
Short Circuit: Season 2 – 4th August
Disney releases a second batch of animated shorts from employees at Walt Disney Animation Studios, ranging from superheroes and the perils of crossing the street.

Now the town of Alexandria has more people than it can manage to feed and protect – and tensions within the walls are starting to heat up. Episodes arrive weekly.
Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian – 25th August
This special episode is a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Season 2 finale of the Star Wars series, with a focus on the technology that pulled the whole thing off.
McCartney 3,2,1 (Star) – 25th August

Cruella – 27th August
The all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. The film, set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, but their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.
Vacation Friends (Star) – 27th August
In this raw and raunchy comedy, strait-laced Marcus and Emily (Lil Rel Howery, Yvonne Orji) are befriended by wild, thrill-seeking partiers Ron and Kyla (John Cena, Meredith Hagner) at a resort in Mexico. Living in the moment, the usually level-headed couple lets loose to enjoy a week of uninhibited fun and debauchery with their new vacation friends. Months after their walk on the wild side, Marcus and Emily are horrified when Ron and Kyla show up uninvited at their wedding…
Only Murders in the Building (Star) – 31st August

As they record a podcast of their own to document the case, the three unravel the complex secrets of the building which stretch back years. Perhaps even more explosive are the lies they tell one another. Soon, the endangered trio comes to realise a killer might be living amongst them as they race to decipher the mounting clues before it’s too late.
