After a slow start to the year, Amazon Prime Video is accelerating in February, and not just because of its new McLaren docuseries, GRAND PRIX Driver, and the ongoing weekly episodes of The Grand Tour’s much-improved second lap. This is one of Amazon’s most diverse months in recent moment, serving up psychological thriller Absentia, fashion drama The Bold Type, orchestral comedy Mozart in the Jungle, Part 2 of superhero spoof The Tick and, with Phantom Thread in cinemas, a chance to revisit Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Amazon Prime Video UK in February 2018:
Absentia – 2nd February
Absentia centres on FBI agent, Emily Byrne (Stana Katic). While hunting one of Boston’s most notorious serial killers, Agent Byrne disappears without a trace and is declared dead. Six years later, Emily is found in a cabin in the woods, barely alive and with no memory of the years she was missing. Returning home to learn her husband has remarried and her son is being raised by another woman, she soon finds herself implicated in a new series of murders.
The Bold Type – 9th February
Inspired by the life of Joanna Coles, former Editor-in-Chief of fashion magazine Cosmopolitan and current Chief Content Officer of Hearst Magazines, The Bold Type follows three 20-something women who work at Scarlet magazine, run by high-powered Editor-in-Chief Jacqueline (Melora Hardin, Transparent). The rising generation of Scarlet women lean on one another as they find their own voices in a sea of intimidating leaders. Together, they explore sexuality, identity, love and fashion.
GRAND PRIX Driver – 9th February
GRAND PRIX Driver goes inside the highly secretive world of Formula 1 by offering never-before-granted access to the inner workings of the McLaren team, one of the most successful teams in motor racing history. After two tough years at the back of the grid, McLaren is hopeful that this is the year they will be back on the podium and they have promoted rookie driver Stoffel Vandoorne alongside two-time world champion Fernando Alonso to work towards this goal.
Mozart in the Jungle: Season 4 – 16th February
New melodies arise as Rodrigo (Gael García Bernal) and Hailey (Lola Kirke) take their relationship public. Hailey struggles to prove herself as a conductor, while Rodrigo fights to keep his inspiration alive. Thomas (Malcolm McDowell) joins a start-up orchestra in Brooklyn that challenges Gloria (Bernadette Peters).
No Stone Unturned: The Loughinsland Story – 20th February
Alex Gibney turns his attention to The Troubles in this well-researched, powerful documentary.
Singin’ in the Rain – 21st Feb
Good morning, good morning!
The Tick: Season 1, Part 2 – 23rd February
The Tick returns with more action-packed episodes! Evil is on the march, and The City is right in its way. Something terrible is going to happen, and Destiny needs her champions now more than ever. The Tick and Arthur round up the gang in a crash collision course between justice and villainy.
Magnolia – 28th Feb
Paul Thomas Anderson’s fascinating tapestry of humans in varying states of existential and emotional crisis is essential viewing, not least because of its career-best performance from Tom Cruise.
