Amazon Prime Video’s movie partners come to the rescue this September, a month with little on the original TV front. With The Man in the High Castle and The Romanoffs, not arriving in October, September’s only new TV show is Forever, although it comes with strong credentials, from co-creators Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard (Parks and Recreation) to co-star Maya Rudolph. Otherwise, Amazon Prime Video will mostly be entertaining new subscribers with gems old and new, including The Post, Early Man and The Commuter.

Lost in Translation – 1st September

Bill Murray went serious for Sofia Coppola’s 2003 drama about a former movie star, who finds himself crossing paths with a fellow tourist (Scarlett Johansson) in Tokyo. As their unspoken bond develops over a stunning alien landscape, this funny tale of loneliness emerges as something beautifully bittersweet

Molly’s Game – 3rd September

Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba crackle in Aaron Sorkin’s slick poker drama.

Pistorius – 6th September

This four-part documentary explores the story of the South African Paralympic and Olympic sprinter, who shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in the early hours of Valentine’s Day 2013. Directed by Vaughan Sivel and made over three years with exclusive access to key players in a live trial, the film chars the tragedy of Steenkamp’s death alongside, and in the context of, South Africa’s society. The story of a man and a nation both born to great disadvantage, it follows the challenges, hopes and triumphs of both Oscar and Reeva, and the demise of their dreams under the glare of the world media.

Forever: Season 1 – 14th September

Married couple, June (Maya Rudolph, Saturday Night Live) and Oscar (Fred Armisen, Anchorman), live a comfortable but predictable life in suburban Riverside, California. For 12 years they’ve had the same conversations, eaten the same meals and taken pleasant holidays at the same rented lake house. But after June talks Oscar into shaking things up with a ski trip, the pair find themselves in completely unfamiliar territory. Forever is an utterly original, insightful and poignant comedy about love, commitment and marriage. It was created by Emmy Award-winning writers Alan Yang (Master of None, Parks and Recreation) and Matt Hubbard (30 Rock, Parks and Recreation).

Suicide Squad – 17th September

The Post – 17th September

Meryl Streep. Tom Hanks. Steven Spielberg. The star names behind The Post are more than enough to make newspaper headlines in their own right, but the strength of Spielberg’s latest is that it questions the very nature of those headlines in the first place – it may be set in the 70s, but at a time when a celebrity is running the White House and clickbait articles have overrun the media in a desperate quest for online traffic, The Post feels striking pertinent and overwhelmingly important.

The Commuter – 19th September

Liam Neeson punches people on a train in Jaume Collet-Serra’s viscerally directed thriller.

Early Man – Date TBC

A plucky cave man named Dug, his sidekick Hognob and the rest of their tribe face a grave threat to their simple existence. Lord Nooth plans to take over their land and transform it into a giant mine, forcing Dug and his clan to dig for precious metals. Not ready to go down without a fight, Dug and Hognob must unite their people in an epic quest to defeat a mighty enemy — the Bronze Age.
